Its been a bit of a pile on about the strolls.
Putting all the money aside he seems to have a very long history in F1. And has now invested in building a front running team.
Whatever Aston martin means it could easily have be put on the grid by someone like that wker Garner that fiddled the norton books and conned the eager to believe out of their money.
Normally with UK 'greats' you get a caterham or Lotus appear for a season or two before disappearing with zero results. Nobody seems so concered when that rubbish happens.
People bang on about Stroll jr driving one of the cars. Maybe they should have called the team Stroll and Son . Then I doubt we would hear any complaints.
Fingers crossed the job offer comes through lol

I think it's probably a bit early to class him as one of the greats, but he's certainly enabled the team to get everything in place to build some real success.

My gut feeling is that they won't get a championship with Fernando and Lance, but the experience that pair have will help to build a WCC capable car. My bet is that they will win either WDC or WCC in 2027, but with at least one different driver.

Remember Toyota F1? Several years in the sport, one of the joint biggest budgets and not a single win to show for it.
Proof that just having loads of money doesn’t guarantee success. Unfortunately I think Aston will be looked at the same way in the future.

All Stroll has done is write cheques so far, he's won nothing.

To put him even in the same ball park as Williams, Ferrari, Chapman, Dennis & Tyrell would be a travesty.

I dunno if he would be in the same league as some of rhe greats as I’m not sure he is as hands on. When I think about greats they have been instrumental or closely linked to driving it forwards day to day. Perhaps that is a disservice as he is clearly trying to put the right team in place, which is a different way to get to the same thing.

What race? Unless it's the race to sign Newey.

Racing Point got a win. Stroll was the owner of Racing Point as well

Sergio Perez won the Sakhir GP 2020 and Lance Stroll came 3rd under Racing Point F1, which Aston Martin was called before the rebranding.

Under Aston Martin they have a strong chance of winning races, maybe even championships with Fernando Alonso, Honda Engines, Adrian Newey designed F1 car from 2026 onwards.

I can't help thinking Aston Martin will be a similar story.

I think he’s been shrewd enough to realize what is required to win in modern f1 under liberty whilst staying profitable with it, then been bold enough to make it happen.

Whether it works out is yet to be seen, far too premature to rank amongst the greats.

In general he seems to be on the brink of potential success with both the road and racing organizations. If he can succeed in either/both then he’ll certainly deserve being lauded for it. Otherwise he can join Aston’s 1970’s owners in the hall of shame.

Toyota is a hue corporate, global brand wanting to increase their profile, with decision made a board level.

Lawrence Stroll is one person. Writing his own cheques. Spending his own money. For the love of sport/glory/success/sell road cars. Exactly the same as all the other one-owner F1 teams.

And now he is really spending the cash. And still people diss him. Its an odd world. I think he should be celebrated. He could have chosen any sport to spend his money on. he chose our sport. And brought the Aston Martin name back into F1.

Think Newey mentioned this in an interview and was one reason that influenced his decision, old school.

Stroll an "owner", minority shareholder more like with just over 20% of Aston Martin Lagonda Global Holdings PLC.

Less than Toto owns in Mercedes F1.

Great is up to history. No evidence yet.

This. Let’s have this discussion in 15 or 20 years.

Absurd to be describing Stroll as ‘one of F1’s great team owners’ at this stage.

I’d say Audi are much more likely to fall into this situation given the state of their F1 prep-work, the state of sauber and inability to secure the personnel they so desperately wanted (Sainz and Newey). Unless papa Stroll suffers the same undignified downfall as someone like his predecessor VJ I’d say he’s got a good shot at being regarded as one of the most serious team owners in terms of giving a fledgling team the capital investment needed to move up the grid. I’m hoping they pull it off.
