After another superb race in Monza, we’re in Baku.

It's impossible to predict with any certainty who will win- but Perez won last year and I think we can all agree that’s not going to happen. McLaren could take over the lead of the WCC, and it will be interesting to see whether McLaren ask Piastri to support Norris in the WDC, if necessary. Red Bull will be trying to make sense of its difficult RB20 and Ferrari will be trying to maintain its improved race pace, following its Monza floor updates.

Off track, expect an announcement about Newey moving to Aston Martin Racing, although how Newey and Lawrence Stroll will work out is very questionable. Interesting to note that Aston Martin Lagonda’s sales were 40% down in H1 24 with net debt up £340m to £1.1bn (!), so I guess this is maybe Stroll maximizing his F1 cash cow before bailing on the AML project.

A Piastri win for me. Here’s to another great race!

Thanks for the thread as always!

I think we’re now at the point where there’s seven drivers who can win any given race (sorry Checo), and the grid depends on who best nails the setup and gets the tyres in the right window.

A rare strategy win from Ferrari last time out, that’s twice in recent races that a one-stop has won out over a two-stop orthodoxy, which suggests the tyres are more durable in reality than in theory, at least if driven well.

Thanks PiaP!!

Wheel-to-wheel racing please!!

I've gone with a Lewis win, just because... Hopefully, my "all-in" is brutally side-stepped (as usual) by Lady Luck, Lando reels off another win, and Max has a further plummet into the midfield abyss.

Roll on a closer and closer finish to the season, with Max getting more and more agitated at not being heralded as the messiah, but a very naughty boy.

Thanks yet again PiaP.

I've gone for anyone for the win, as long as they are driving a McLaren. And, after a long period in the dark, it looks as if it might be the sensible choice.

The most exciting season for some time is in its last few, and decisive, races. There's a fear at the back of my mind that RB might find another reg that doesn't apply to them and return to domination, but then I console myself by remember my past predictions and that I'm probably as wrong as I am about much of F1. I'm anticipating a thrilling race.

Thanks again.

I’m genuinely happy that McLaren has found a way to win- a lot of credit to Stella and Zak for turning it around. Just need Williams to do the same!

James Vowles definitely comes across as a man with a plan, and has gone about the job of modernising and reforming the team well so far, even to the point of binning the pay-driver when the repair costs got too high.

Someone schooled under Ross Brawn and Toto Wolff, two of the most successful individuals ever in the sport. These things always take time, but Williams are finally moving in the right direction after a decade of stagnation.

I’ve opened the batting for Perez, if someone can give his head a wobble he is quick around here and could win.

Also my understanding is that Newey’s lightweight E is out of the RB wind tunnel for the Goodwood weekend so development of the RB20’s aero can resume….

Hamilton to start just ahead of Verstappen with the McLarens up front. Memories of 2021 into T1 ;-0

I’m voting for Max, mad safety car at the right time and some elbows out I think he’ll manage a win to keep the championship fight well and truly alive.

Can see Oscar being told to swap positions end of the race if he’s ahead of Lando! Only logical at this stage I feel!

It really should be Norris, but who knows how Mclaren will manage to mess this one up.

I've gone for a Hamilton win, with McLaren 2-3 and Russel in 5th due to some kind of terrible luck robbing him of a win.

Ferrari and Redbull smattered amongst the rest of the top 10.

Gut feeling says RedBull will win one more race this year, but it won't be here.

I’ve got a feeling Verstappen will lose his st, do something stupid and end up with nil points.

So last year Charles takes pole and comes home in 3rd behind the now struggling bulls. I fancy his chances on Sunday. Even if he’s not polling in first place. 🙂

Points for Oli Bearman again maybe? Long shot, he's in a HAAS not a works Ferrari, but still, kids got talent.

He won the F2 here in 2023 so he knows what it takes at this circuit.

yes A scuffle with Lewis, who has the better pace, with McLarens out ahead in 1-2.

That works for me with the proviso that Lewis’ car is undamaged.

A McLaren 1-2, especially with Lando winning, would put the McLarens top of the constructors championship and Lando only 37 points (36 with fastest lap) behind in the drivers. That would make the rest of the season very spicy indeed.

I'm not one with an encyclopedic knowledge of previous races but I do know Baku tends to produce decent races, looking forward to it.

Need Verstappen to have a DNF or two to really spice things up.

Baku produces dull races with a high chance of a safety car. It's only late-race safety car restarts that provide any excitement there.
