As a Brit I’ve always had a soft spot for Williams from the days of Frank running the team on a shoestring to the days of Mansell and Piquet battling amongst themselves. BMW and Montoya brought some glory but no titles (?) and Claire inherited stress.
Selling the team was the only option really and it’s been a difficult job to keep going. Vowles seems to be heading in the right direction and Albon seems committed to the team.
I thought and hoped Carlos would slot in but he’s dithering. Bottas has history with the team but I’m not sure that his time at Sauber has been good for him. Ocon should be left alone with his temper.
So who’s left?

Carlos would be a great choice for the team, but I get the impression that he'd see it as a stop-gap rather than a long term project.

Trouble for him is that, over the last few months, every team apart from Ferrari and McLaren had a seat available for next year and none of the teams at the front have taken him, so it seems this is where he is, at least for the moment.

If he can't or won't commit and convince me that he's in for the long haul, I'd take Bottas - proven winner, knows the team, experienced, great back up for Albon.

Carlos and Alex would be a formidable driver force …….. if the car was competitive
But I fear that Carlos may see it as going from Man Utd to Macclesfield Town

It would be a big step down for Carlos, it would benefit the team to have him on board, but my worry is that he won't get back into a front running team.

Bottas would be good, I think, but he's not really delivered at Sauber.

Ocon would be a liability. Williams need at least one driver that can keep it out of the wall so they don't go bankrupt!

Ordinarily, I'd be looking to F2 and hoping they blood someone new. However, none of the current crop seem to be standing out from the crowd ... so with that in mind I'm guessing Bottas would be the best available option.

I think the Mercedes seat is the current cork in the bottle. Once that's decided, I imagine a lot of drivers will then scramble quickly to not be left without a seat once the music stops.

Sainz or Bottas, in that order. If they fail to get either of them then an outside chance to Ricciardo, which will probably be an unpopular choice with some.
