Liam Lawson 2023
Discussion
For me one of the stand out drivers of 2023 was LL.
Turns out he is also a genuine petrol head and has just started his own channel on YouTube .
Guess what his own personal road car is? He’s just had a few mods done to it.

Hopefully Liam Lawson will make his 2024 debut at Singapore.
Not sure how accurate this report below is
Daniel Ricciardo may have already competed in his final Formula 1 race, as rumors circulate that Red Bull is poised to announce its plans for its second F1 team, RB.
Speculation suggests that these changes could start as early as the Singapore Grand Prix, with 35-year-old Ricciardo being replaced by Liam Lawson.
Following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Dutch journalist Rick Winkelman reported that, according to his sources, the rumours are indeed true.
"I have understood from several people that Liam Lawson will definitely drive in Singapore, he told Ziggo Sport.
"Apparently, Lawson's contract with Red Bull states that he has to drive at least five grands prix this year."
Red Bull F1 advisor Dr. Helmut Marko was directly asked about the plans for RB's driver lineup during an interview with Viaplay at the Baku Grand Prix.
"We have an idea, but we have to wait until Singapore.
"It is still September, but from Singapore, we will have a precise idea. It will be quite clear as to what will happen with the second seat."
It is believed that Marko's mention of September is directly linked to clauses in New Zealander Liam Lawson's F1 contract with Red Bull.
Former Red Bull driver Robert Doornbos commented that he wouldn't be surprised if Lawson, 22, has been promised at least five Grand Prix in 2024.
"That is very possible," he said, "because I had exactly the same contract at Red Bull, where they obligated you to step in for a number of races."
"In my case, they had to throw Christian Klien out," Doornbos added, referring to the tail end of the 2006 season. "Otherwise, another clause would have come into effect."

I'm hoping this is true. Nothing against DR, but having seen the positive impact drivers like Colapinto and Bearman have had it would be interesting to see what Lawson could add for the rest of the season.
Really hope this is true, McLaren knew Ricciardo was done when they paid him not to drive for the final year of his contract. Since then he has been taking up a seat whilst blaming the chassis or tyre graining for why he was performing so badly.
I don't understand why he kept thinking he was going to get the Perez Red Bull seat yet was unable to beat Tsunoda, who I don't rate at all.
Did grinning like an idiot at every possible opportunity really get him the seat for 2024 which should have gone to Lawson from the start?
Sargeant has already gone and Magnussen, Guanyu, Riccardo and possibly Bottas look certain to leave F1 this year. Finally the dross are being got rid of and replaced with new talent.

I think that's unfair on Valtteri. I suspect alongside being a good Qualifier, solid Race pace driver, dependable and consistent. That he is a wealth of knowledge and brings no drama to teams and personnel. As well as having the experience to benefit setup, and the humility to guide new partners.
He may not be Legendary, but he's certainly a Great. For brand, sponsor, and team.
Only the very top teams can afford to constantly gamble on chasing Champions.

I have a sneaky feeling he might get the last remaining seat at Sauber. I really hope it doesn't somehow end up going to Ricciardo.......Binotto starting may mean they value experience so will keep Bottas.
They are starting a whole new project so cant afford to have some wide eyed newbies saying 'brilliant' about everything.

Agree. Valtteri is a victim of driving a car with no investment or development while Sauber wait for Audi to turn up and throw their money at it. It's unfair to add his name to the seat warmer list in my opinion. 20 poles, 10 wins, nearly 60 podiums. A wealth of experience in a multi world championship winning team. I'd bet he'd be doing a far better job in that Red Bull than Perez has throughout 23/24.

I think Colapinto might have entered the room.
So did De Vries after one solid showing on a track suited to the car. One swallow doesn't make a summer. Happy to be proven wrong, but we need more than one showing on tracks that are less Williams specific. But i'm sure the money will talk regardless.

De Vries finished where he did because the race ended under the safety car, plus he was a replacement for Albon so measured against Latifi, not difficult. He should have stayed with Williams I do think it could have been different but his head couldn't take Red Bull and a difficult Alpha Tauri car.But i'm sure the money will talk regardless.
Qualifying showed how close they were, when Albon was always much further ahead of Latifi.
de Vries - 1:22.567
Latifi - 1:22.587

That's true, although there was little to choose between De Vries and Albon over a season in F2 (2018). Infact De Vries career has more to show for it than Albon given he was F2 champion, Formula E Champion, Le Mans podium finisher amongst others. Qualifying showed how close they were, when Albon was always much further ahead of Latifi.

Albon on the other hand has never won a car championship at any level. Just shows that seat time is so valuable in F1.
I see Dr Vries much like Vandoorne. What could have been.... as you say, he was a victim of the RB conveyor belt.

Valtteri is just Sergio Perez with charisma. Never achieved a thing until he was given an utterly dominant car, played an absolutely pathetic second fiddle to his team mate then went back to achieving nothing. Get rid of him. Too many fossils taking up seats in this series.
Second fiddle to the greatest driver, racer, and subjectively qualifier of all time. Second fiddle to an

I used to support Valteri at Merc and yet the guy just couldn't race. Wouldn't overtake, wouldn't try anything. It was torture
