I have been suitably impressed by his ability to stay out of trouble and seemingly improve his performances race-upon-race.

Hope that it continues and he can do well, given what I expect to be not inconsiderable pressure from his home-town overlords!

What is the reasoning that in F1 he is called Zhuo Guanyu, previously in F2 he was Guanyu Zhuo?

Previously the presenters where getting over excited and calling out Go on you, Joe.

Isn't that the correct (Chinese) format of his name? I.e. the family name is said first, followed by the given name. I guess F1 are a bit more culturally aware than F2 biggrin

Chinese custom is to say the surname first, then the given name. Zhou Guanyu.

The F2 onscreen graphics department wasn’t set up for that, and got it the wrong way around.

On topic, yes he’s having a good debut season so far. He’s not had too many incidents, and is close to keeping up with a very experienced team-mate.

Can't complain, he does not seem to make silly errors. And he wins save of the year for this sideways overtaking attempts just out of the Monaco tunnel........

I think this is the trick. Driving well, then improving. I've been impressed.

The reason I'm impressed by Zhou is that he was nothing special in F2 so I was kinda expecting him to overdrive, erratic, spins, and crashes. Instead he's been consistent and stayed out of trouble.

On another thread I was surprised to find he had the biggest gap to his team mate on the grid of about a second.

I was expecting another Mazepin, they had similar results in F2, but he's actually pretty good.

The gap to his teammate is mostly down to Bottas being the real Mr Saturday.

He reminds me a bit of Max Chilton.

Not flashy, not spectacular, not OMG fast, just steady and safe.

And improving each race. I’m interested to see if he can maintain his trajectory.

I watched a F1 clip on YouTube the other day. You know the sort, where team mates are messing about in the paddock, doing silly quizzes, and Bottas was very complimentary about Zhou, saying how he sees his telemetry, how he works with his engineers, and was very impressed by him and his work ethic.

Im not saying Zhou is going to be giving MV a run for his money, but he could potentially carve out a decent career as being Patrese-like. A decent, solid, safe no:2 driver…..(maybe).

Another solid performance in the wet, and the first time into Q3. He's deservedly in F1. Might not be a wdc candidate as yet, but this sort of performance on a regular basis will get him noticed by the bigger teams. I'm a big fan.
