Suzuka

When was the track built?

In 1962. Soichiro Honda, whose car company you may have heard of, was a man with big ambitions. Seeking to turn Honda into an automotive powerhouse, he decided his company should have its own test track. Dutchman John Hugenholtz got the nod, and drew up the now-iconic ‘crossover’ Suzuka track – although original drawings saw the track pass over and under itself a full three times.

When was its first Grand Prix?

Despite most people agreeing that Suzuka is a worthy successor to sliced bread in the ‘Best Thing’ stakes, the Japanese track was a relative latecomer to the F1 calendar, making its first appearance in 1987. Nigel Mansell would remember that weekend well, after he suffered a crash in qualifying that ruled him out of the race, gifting that year’s championship to his bitter rival Nelson Piquet.

What’s the circuit like?

Show us a racing a driver who doesn’t love Suzuka, and we’ll show you a liar. The high-speed track remains one of the ultimate driving challenges, with the snaking ‘S’ Curves, the two commitment-rewarding Degners and the white-knuckle ride of 130R all highlights in a series of highlights at what is one of F1’s seminal tracks. And hey, it’s got a crossover, which is always cool,

Always look forward to Suzuki, but if it is anything like the last few races it'll be time to turn off, hopefully rain plays a small part.

Worth tuning in just to watch these downforce monsters fly through 130R. But the whole Suzuka layout will play to the 2018 cars strengths, overtaking/following will be tricky though.

Hopefully it rains to spice up the action a bit.

Any chance the TV times can be added to the post?

Well in complete honesty I had prepared a more in depth op, but unfortunately closed the wrong browser tab.. and lost everything...in my anger I decide to leave more than a few things (such as the boxing for the tv stuff) while I was frantically cutting and pasting and re-finding the images I’d uploaded.

The op will be padded out later today as I have had to go out to do some appointments this morning and trying to do it on the phone screen out and about them is a little more time consuming than my Mac at home hehe

Just want to thank you again for all this work.

thumbup

First one I did took literally hours! (Was the small hours and had a few drinks before hand). Now I know where to look for the stuff (and “code” the boxes) 30 ish mins.

There’s a lot of posts (and I for one enjoy reading all the different views), adds to my race weekend.

I’ll drop the new stuff in the comments but as well as the op so you don’t have to check the op over and over.

I didn't mean to come across as criticising in any way, I have started a few of these threads (using Dr Z's template) and know how much work is involved in it.
Thanks for the work you put in.

Thanks.

Ferrari still shy on the harder compound tyres. Only two softs each as well.

And what the gooseberry is going on with McLarens choices?

These choices are made several weeks ago (16 weeks for fly aways)?

Rain will be the only thing that will help them, (and Hamilton/Verstappen are the best in that), and I think red bull will be mighty here.

Mclaren, well they dance to the beat of their own drum....

This is one of the weekends where I am grateful to have Ch 4 +1. I don't need to get up at 6am to watch the race and there is no chance of seeing any spoilers before I watch at 7am.
