Change qualifying
Discussion
As things stand now, the results of a F1 race are largely determined by qualifying.
You need rain to spice things up which doesn't happen often enough.
What would happen if every team was guaranteed one race per season where they would start on the front row as long as they were within 7% of the fastest car?
What would happen if every team was guaranteed one race per season where they had to start at the back of the pack?
In major sports, the team that wins the trophy gets the last draft pick. Is there something similar that can be done to make the racing more compelling?

The whole point of qualifying is that the fastest car and driver starts first? If they had two races a weekend like F2 then I could see a reverse grid option but messing with it too much just means teams wouldn't go out on track to save engine life. 'Lewis this is our turn to start from the back of the grid so we've changed all your powerplant components and won't complete more than one lap in Q1 to ensure our grid slot.' 'Yes I know it's the British Grand Prix but we have to look at the championship.'

Don't change qualifying. It's the most interesting part of most races.

Do the same in F1. Make all drivers have one year contracts, so they are free agents at the beginning of each season. Then the lowest place team from the last season gets first pick of drivers. If you are going to spice it up then move qualifying to Saturday morning for a 25 lap balls out sprint race to determine the grid positions for the race. Trouble with that is that the qualifying race could be more exciting than the race - and would it make that much of a difference.
Don't see there much wrong with what we have.

Grid time penalties based upon the previous race result?
e.g. You win a race, you get 1.0 second added on to your qualifying time at the next race.
0.8 seconds for finishing second, 0.6 for third etc.
That way there's still an incentive for the driver to set the fastest possible qualifying time and, unless they have a massive car advantage and still qualify at the front, they'll have to fight their way through from around the middle of the grid.
(Not saying that this is what I'd like to see happen, just posting for discussion, and I'd prefer this kind of system to the 'success ballast' system used in the BTCC)

Best thing they could do would get rid of the stupid requirement to use at least two different tyres, and let them use what they have however they like and have multiple suppliers again.
Other than that, get rid of all the over-clever aerodynamic surfaces, making the spoilers much simpler and make the front spoiler single surface and smaller.

Of all the things wrong with F1, qualifying is not one of them, save the carry over of tyres for Q2>Race for the top ten.
Agreed, leave qualy as it is by scrap the carry over to race tyres. The should all start races on new tyres.
Sorry but let everyone have-a-go at pole, its all a bit humanities for my liking. Pole has to be won.
I don't want randomisers like success ballast, reverse grids etc, for all the exciting racing they might produce they just don't feel pure, you're chasing a moving goal.
So what could be exciting but also pure?
A Saturday sprint race is often touted. I wouldn't hate the idea of this.
Or, I'm mad brainstorming here so bear with me. Qualify, then reverse grid. Sprint race, and every overtake you make moves you up the grid for tomorrow. There are bugs to iron out with this plan as the maths fails, some kind of formula needs to be worked out for how places are moved.
Maybe for the sprint race grid order is 11-20 in first 10 places, then 1-10, every place made in sprint race moves you up the grid, that would work more cleanly.
