Good morning, have been sent an email from Silverstone to let me know that for just £89 for all three days i can hire one of these.

I assume they are like the old Kangaroo TV’s which i never bothered with.

Does anyone have any experience of the new system or any thoughts from using the old system as to whether it will be worth it?

The old Kangaroo TV was brilliant. I don't recall it costing anywhere near ninety quid though.

Just checked... they were €50 last time. Quite a steep increase!

Yeah it’s funny how all these things that Liberty are doing for the fans seem to cost so much!

You can also buy a fast track ticket now for £40 for the weekend which seems to give you early access to the track and i think but can’t fully be sure, special car lanes for ease of ingress/egress to the circuit. Invariably these things mean that they will slow down normal routes to show worth.

Had a quick play with one at barca and saw plenty people using them, we didnt bother- always had a view of the big screens and the commentary could be heard throughout the day.

I had the Kangaroo TV when I went to Singapore a few years ago. TBH I think it detracted from the race, I found I was looking at that more than the actual action going on in front of me. It was good that I got better commentary, but with the new whisper silent engines everyone complains about then the trackside speakers should be heard easily now.

Sounds a bit like Ryanair’s customer alienation program. The key difference being that Ryanair charge buttons for a basic ticket.

Agree that its real value is when you're in GA and don't have a decent view of a screen. I've no idea what commentary they use on them now, but back in 2011 or whenever it was, you got the good, pre-shouty/annoying version of Crofty, and Ant Davidson, for practise sessions and the lower category races, rather than the trackside feed. It was worth it for that alone. I spent many a happy afternoon at a sunny circuit listening to them - bit of a TMS vibe. The timing screens were invaluable too.

I'm not sure they're worth £90 in the days of smartphones and roaming data.

I have had these at a few events and to be honest they are just not worth it imo unless you are the poor sod 20 people back with no sight on the screens.

Even then £90 buys a sit load of data for your mobile and a back up battery pack for it - which is exactly what i will be doing at LM.
