Gasly doing a lap at Monaco:

Looks a lot more restrictive than I thought it would - surprised the drivers haven't had more to say.

It looks restrictive because the camera doesn't give stereo vision. Since the driver's eyes are wider spaced than the width of the pillar, there wont be a blind spot in the centre, just two very small regions either side of the centre where the driver has no depth perception.

The brain is very good at forming a cohesive image in such situations from the information available. If you want to get an idea of what it feels like, try putting strip of electrical tape a couple of cm wide on your windscreen directly in front of you and then drive around (preferably not on the public road!).

I think that the fact the halo blocks out a huge part of the sky increases the perception of view restriction more than the halo actually does block.

What's the purpose of saying which corner he's at - to confirm GPS is working correctly??

Interestingly, based on this I wonder if the halo will have a bigger impact on visibility in simulations, whether the posh ones the teams use or the Xbox ones that I might use. If you are only viewing on a 2d flat screen, there might be less chance for your stereoscopic vision to cork around it.

Radio reception check all around the track. At one point the engineer confirmed 'loud and clear'.
