What the hell is going on with Vettel this year. First he gets a haircut that is somewhat resembling recent Lewis' cuts, now he's jumping in to defend Lewis like they were best mates or something. He sounds emotional and excited while doing it... like he was on something. MDMA, speed makes one do that, plus he's mouth is dry soooo...

I suspect he is equally annoyed by the journalists questions and in this instance he could highlight it without making it about him.

Very smart...

yes Had any driver responded like that when the question was directed at them, they'd have looked like they were whining about being singled out and/or avoiding personal responsibility. This way he could vent his annoyance without seeming like a spoiled brat.

isn't he missing the point? ...wasn't the journo asking about the comment in the green room, rather than anything said at the time of contact?

I think he was talking about the green room, as the footage was shown Vettel was standing next to him

Some are, some are well respected.

It’s a transactional relationship and both parties use each other, some drivers better than others.

It’s not unknown for drivers (or their managers) to leak contract negotiations to drive up the value of a contract, etc

I imagine they are quite good mates by now. I’ve heard plenty of interviews that are friendly with a bit of banter between the two. Good on Vetel for stepping in.

I doubt it. There isn't the deep distrust that was between Hamilton and Rosberg, but they are too focused on beating each other to be friends. Some banter and a fair amount of mutual respect (aside from Baku) but not friends?

I recall a commentator saying how relatively few drivers were actually friends away from the circuit; I think a couple are/were - Coulthard/Button, Webber/Alonso, Sainz/Alonso, Ricciardo/Bianchi (RIP)/LeClerc. Apparently Kimi and Seb get on and play some sports together away from the track.

Journo definitely is ...but Seb seems to go off on one about football, Adrenalin & slaps in the face, none of which are applicable as it was a post race comment

as for Max ...it's hard racing & yep i'm sure everyone who's on the other end of it sees it as a 'dick head' move (ask Nico)

Only complaint Lewis has, is that Max blamed him for it ...which IS taking the pi$$

A lot of viewers have a go at the drivers moaning over the radio and Vettel's explanation is just as applicable. Saying that fan's criticism's over Alonso's moans and groans regarding Honda has its justification.

Exactly, Vettel was jumping to conclusions here. Perhaps he assumed Hamilton did what he did in Mexico in 2016 and had a rant on the radio.

The journalist's question was not at all unreasonable.

I think it's no secret that Vettel hasn't been a fan of Verstappen's driving style over the last few years, his smile said it all when he turned to camera as Hamilton remarked on Verstappen colliding with him, it was almost "See I told you he was"

I bet what Vettel wanted to say was "But he is a dhead, next question".

I'm struggling to think of many that are well respected. It seems the whole industry has been infected with trolling and sensation seeking at the expense of fact.

Mark Hughes
Joe Saward is respected (and has good access, hence his industry newsletter as well)
James Allen

I guess there is a balance between those that are writers away from the track and journalist churning out copy.
