I saw a Super Formula race from last season and Pierre Gasly was running rings around the field to win a race,
he was second in this championship though there was a cancelled race.

I was pleased he qualified 6th for the the second race of the 2018 Formula 1 season today

I am impressed with his F1 debut, he has the wild card but underpowered Honda engine.
I think he is a promising talent for the future, what are other's views?

Promising talent, but there are a lot of young drivers coming up at the moment with Ocon, Norris, Russell, Sainz, Verstappen amongst others. It will be interesting to see how they fit into top teams with established drivers hogging the top seats

I touched his bum once. That's where the talent is from.

True, but Gasly is immediately showing that talent, reminded me of Vettel when he was in the TR. All the others are no doubt good but it's standout performances like this that bring the real cream to the top, as Vestappen/Vettel and all the top drives have shown.

So if you'd touched him twice would he have made the podium??!! 😉

It certainly does look like a star was born this weekend. It’s very early days, but he looks like the real deal, in the same way Vetel did for STR in 08. It will be interesting to follow his progress.

I have not touched his bum.

If Ricciardo does leave then Pierre could well find himself in the Red Bull next year.

Yes one race is nothing but that was a great weekend especially considering how far he was ahead of his teammate.

With Sainz?

That is the magic of the RB young driver program. I bet there are lots of football teams that wish they had scouts as adept as Helmut Marko.

Personally, I think Max will do just fine once he grasps the fact that you do not win a race on the first lap. He is talented, it just needs to be controlled rage.

A number of people seem to be forgetting that Hartley didn't get the updated parts for this race, though. Would it have made a difference? - who knows. In no way am I belittling Gasly, bloody good result.

Those parts woulds have to transform the car to make up the difference in their two performances though.
