Darren Heath is a pretty big name in F1 photography, but found this tweet a bit odd. If you're going to bh about someone saying:

"I've been photographing #F1 -professionally-for 30 years.Senna,Prost,Mansell,Alonso,Vettel, et al, Yet never ever have I seen a such a shockingly poor & disrespectful, monstrously egotistical display, as I & many others witnessed - from the current world champion - today. #AusGP"

Then surely have the cojones to back it up? Anyone know what he's actually referring too? Wouldn't have thought vaguebooking was an especially professional way to conduct yourself....

From what I gather, some journos were unhappy that he was giving short, curt answers. Storm in a teacup; I'd have the same attitude as Lewis if I got asked the same bloody questions race after race, year after year.

That's really, really poor form from one of the top names in the paddock. Even more so as he's not actually made any attempt to explain his claims.

I'm sure plenty of us photographers (and obviously I don't put myself in the same league as Heath) have encountered very unpleasant situations with clients etc before, but I don't recall too many bhing about it vaguely all over social media.

Kimi's been doing that for years and is considered cool!

I think F1 journos don the rose-tinted glasses just as much as some of the fans do.

Loved this little exchange on Saturday:

Mercedes AMG F1 said:
Damon Hill said:
The sooner @MercedesAMGF1 and @ScuderiaFerrari breakaway the better as far as I’m concerned. These massive industrial complexes are ruining the sport. They don’t want to play. They want it all, and all the time. The @fia have lost grip of @F1 @SkySportsF1 #f1
‘Massive industrial complexes ruining the sport.’ We don’t remember you complaining when you were winning all those races with top of the line Renault-power, Damon wink
Factually incorrect response from Merc (he was in a Williams), but funny all the same.

I think they were referring to the Renault engine in the back of the Williams at the time.

Hill responded with

“Er....I was in a @WilliamsRacing Those disgusting garagiste upstarts. Remember? And actually, I was acutely embarrassed that I won so much. Shame on me #f1”

That's what I thought. It's a very strong tweet if all he did was not be particularly engaging. Making a vague tweet and not having the balls to back it up is pretty poor form, can't see him getting much out of LH now....

It might have something to do with this?

Hamilton might be a driving god who has developed and honed his craft in the opinion of some people contributing to the thread dedicated to him here, but his comments at the pre and post race press-conferences ("wipe the smile off your face" and "I wasn't listening") prove that arrogant man-child is a permanent part of his personality.

All the more arrogant when Toto calls out his blatant lie about the extra modes in qualifying (what exactly was Lewis trying to do - take full credit for the improved performance?)

We live in an age where decorum isn't valued by some but still recognised by many.

If you want the best example of that just listen to Joe Saward on the Missed Apex podcast, I honestly don’t get why so many people think he’s amazing? He comes across as a miserable tt from what I’ve heard..

I think he is good. He talks with a rare (if a little dour) honesty and has very good paddock access.

His books are quite good as well.

I see you are yet another hater who conveniently ignores the facts.

Yes, he said the comment to Vettel, so would I and any other racer, it's part of the psychology of beating your opponent.

There was some in-depth analysis of his pole lap. At least 7/10ths came from his faster cornering speed, this has nothing to do with engine modes. In fact, the Ferraris were consistently faster down the straights than the Mercedes cars, so, yes, it is down to his skill that he was that far ahead.

Don't let the facts get in the way of your hatred, we understand.

I am sorry but 7/10ths from corners, no chance. Considering most of the driver's would not change their technique considerably between laps I cannot imagine that at all.

Notwithstanding the above (and Toto being brutally honest - exposing the 'psychology' aspect as being misguided), Lewis's comments before and after were objectively childish and ignorant.

That Vettel and everyone else racing deliberately and diplomatically chose not to rub his nose in it despite being provoked and having very good reason to speaks volumes that you will never understand.

There’s quite a good clip on CH4 showing where he gained. It wasn’t necessarily on the straights.

Journalists are not above criticisms and have no right to be answered. They are just part of the F1 crowd. They are a dedicated bunch but I am sure that some are detestable and feel they are photographic gods. I've not read any threads on them on PH though. Have you thought that, for instance, the journo might have suggested Hamilton was an arrogant man child? I mean, how pathetic would that have made the journo. The journo seems to think that mere length of time in the post is enough to render him special. Hamilton may or may not be special, but he's got a tremendous record.

Whatever was said to the journo, putting it on FB seems to me to be a bit childish. The comments seem to indicate a certain arrogance as well. Perhaps he, Hamilton and those who seem to hate Hamilton for being good at what he does are well matched.
