I understand that there will be software within the car to manage fuel rates and rev mapping etc..

But to give such a massive performance difference...

Now my understanding is there is no “party”/ quali mode, it was all planted for a physiological advantage over the opposition, and by Christ has it worked.

The opposition push and over push to keep up and therefore make mistakes, and are then happy not to finish where they could, while Lewis ( who’s the fastest over one lap) is left in the comfort zone.

Master stroke of psychology...

Well, my Merc has 4 engine modes, two of them are "ok" speed wise, one is quite nippy and one is s**t that went.... So I can quite imagine they have more refined engine modes in the F1 car which give quite a significant increase in performance.

Rosberg said on Sky that there is effectively a party mode map and Toto said the same in an interview aswell, it’ll be a 1 lap special map certainly not one that can be used for any length of time in a race if they want the engine to last.

Everyone’s getting closer, they’re going to have something up their sleeve to maintain a quali advantage at least

Back in the day they used to have 'party' engines that they whack in for qualifying then switch it out before the race to sensible spec.

Just done some crude maths..

Hamilton is (can) lapping half a meter per second quicker than Vettel around the track...

If a lap is about 82 seconds, are you saying Hamilton would have been 40 ish metres in front of Vettel per lap? That's a long way in 0.7 seconds scratchchin

Not far off, 0.5 secs in a 5km 82 second lap is just over 30 metres.

Works out at about 128mph - must be about average speed for the lap.

No doubt the car helped, but looking at the qualy lap I'd say the main difference is he just absolutely nailed it, most pole laps will have some point that lose at least a few tenths/hundredths, today's didn't, just the perfect lap,
