Wasn't sure if this goes in the travel section or F1 so I've put it in both.

I am taking my wife and some friends for a long weekend to Cannes and it just so happens to be the weekend of the F1 in Monaco. We are not that bothered about F1 and have lots of other plans over the weekend but we do normally make a point of spending some time in Monaco as its a very nice place.

So my question is what is Monaco like on the Monday post race? Is it still mega busy, would it better to visit in the afternoon or does it not make much difference?

All advice welcome and thanks in advance! smile

Never had the pleasure, but I should imagine there will be a lot of construction guys around dismantling all the paraphernalia that goes into turning a town centre into a racing circuit.

The majority of fans would, I imagine, travel in from Nice for the day, so you will likely dodge them.

You're choosing an odd weekend to do it if you're not bothered about the GP. All hotel prices etc get jacked up that weekend, even as far out as Cannes. We went last year and stayed in Cannes; even with the GP on it's easy to move around. They take down the majority of the race circuit infrastructure on the Sunday evening, but Monday still feels a bit like the morning after the night before. Huge numbers of people nursing hangovers too. It's definitely not Monaco at it's best, and it needs to be at it's best as it's not really that attractive a place.

We have a place outside Cannes so accommodation isn’t a worry. I’ve been down there before when the GP is on and it’s been fine, I just avoided Monaco knowing it would be busy. This time some of our group have never been and are keen to have look round. It maybe quite interesting to see Monaco at little differently to previous visits but I know what you mean seems a shame when it’s not at its best. Really is a lovely place!

If I was on my own I would get a ticket for the Sunday but maybe another year!
