He's in place of Ant Davidson, who will be the reserve driver (and racing at the Japan race when Alonso is at the US GP?)

I wonder what the odds are in Alonso being F1 WDC and WEC WDC in the same season?
Extremely slim when he is only doing Le Man in the WEC FourWheelDrift said:

I'm beginning to wonder if he's done a deal with McLaren where his pay is lower, but McLaren give him leeway to do this stuff.Fernando Alonso to race at Le Mans and select WEC rounds in 2018 with Toyota after receiving permission from McLaren to dovetail his F1 commitments.

But this is the super-season. He is missing 2 more races and a further 24 hours of le mans....
The remaining bits of "super season" are in 2019 ,so no F1 calendar yet to know what clashes......surely ?Vocal Minority said:
There has been commitment for the calendar year only - that's how Autosport portrayed it - regardless he couldn't do the double this year (even in a world of a mega McLaren) as there isn't - strictly - a 2018 WEC
And even if the season did run over 1 year, he wouldn't be driver's champion as the driver he shares with would get the points for Fuji.Vocal Minority said:

A very good point...A little conspiracy theory I know but what would get better PR for Toyota - Buemi and Nakajima as world champs. of Buemi, Nakajima and Alonso...?
