With Brazil and Abu Dhabi left, Vettel is 15 points ahead of Bottas. Mercedes are going to want a 1-2 championship with Hamilton and Bottas, Ferrari will go for second place now Hamilton is champion. Depending on the relative pace of the Ferrari and Mercedes in the two races, there are probably going to be team orders to help get that second spot if the cars are in a position to help. Although I think Hamilton being ahead and letting Bottas by is more likely than Raikkonen being ahead of Vettel and letting him by, in terms of pace and the relationships between teammates.

So whats it going to be, Vettel second, or a Mercedes driver 1-2?

Kimi let Seb pass in the last race didn't he ?

15 point is too much for Bottas to make up in 2 races unless Ferrari reliability steps in.

Kimi finished 3rd , Vettel 4th. I think Kimi let Vettel past between Kimi's and Vettel's pit stops though but they didn't swap them around to give Vettel more points

I agree, unless Vettel has a DNF, 15 points is too much much to.make up in 2 races.

Mercedes will throw everything at bottas now but I dont think he's good enough if I'm honest! I think he would lose out to Ferrari or the red bulls

Are there any engine penalties to be applied to red or silver cars ?

Surely this will come down to whether Lewis wants to play the team man or go for more records? with 7 points difference between 1st and 2nd and 2 races left...it isnt that much of an ask?

It would only take for Bottas to win a race and Vettel to come 6th and lower in the one race...and that would be enough.

About the time of Hungarian GP, when Lewis was was asked if BOT should be tasked with helping him secure the WDC, he replied that he would prefer to be in a position to help BOT get 2nd. So perhaps it is now time to fulfill that offer.

IMHO, I think Seb’s numerical advantage, together with his generally higher level of skill will make it difficult for Merc to achieve the 1-2. Like the WDC, they will need to rely heavily on Ferrari messing things up, to achieve that result.

What's the weather forecast for Interlagos? Ferrari were not good in the wet at Monza. Without a mixed up race or a reliability problem for Vettel, a 15- point swing in Bottas' favour is unlikely IMO. it's not as though he's consistently qualified and raced in 2nd place behind Hamilton all season. The Mercedes car isn't dominant and Bottas hasn't reached the same understanding with it that Hamilton has.

With a Mercedes 1-2 in each remaining race, in Bottas' favour, it's not inconceivable that he could overtake Vettel for 2nd in the championship.

True but Bottas hasn't exactly been a winning machine, he hasn't even been great at finishing second to Hamilton. I reckon Vettel, with the WDC pressure off, will continue qualifying on the front row.

If Bottas suddenly starts performing and takes 2nd in the Championship from Vettel would that not stir things up in the Mercedes team??

I remember when Schumacher broke his leg, Eddie Irvine seems to find form very quickly biggrin

I can't see Merc being that bothered. They have the WCC and WDC tied up, so it's pretty much job done. I think if Lewis and Bottas are 1/2 and clear they may switch them, but I can't see that they'll go to too much effort to engineer that.

That's not how I remember it. When Schumacher wasn't there Eddie was OK for a couple of races then lost direction with the car until Schumacher came back in Malaysia.

At the end of the season Ferrari dumped Eddie.
