Discussion
Just in case you haven't seen anything, qualifying is being put back two hours to accomodate a Justin Timberlake concert...

That I think may be the point: to most of the USA, a potentially massive market, the US Grand Prix is exactly that: a little car race thing. Justin Timberlake is a massive draw.Or am I due a visit by an avian with a distinctive sound?
So it now starts at midnight our time?
"The USA is, without a doubt, the country where sports events are seen as entertainment thatgoes above and beyond the purely sporting contesthappens in the background while you drink weak, gassy, tasteless beer," said F1 commercial chief Sean Bratches, as he sucked on a lukewarm Duff.

From what I've read it was originally 8pm BST (2pm local) and has be delayed until 10pm BST (4pm local)"The USA is, without a doubt, the country where sports events are seen as entertainment that
I don't see the downside. If they can get 10,000 timberlake fans that hang around for the F1, they might stay. If they stay, they might become fans. If they become fans, maybe Sauber could get a US sponsor, and F1 would be less st. Hell, they might even manage to do an extra race at a decent interesting and different track (I vote for Daytona), instead of another spectatorless tilkedrome in the arse end of a corrupt country somewhere.
Strikes me there's no pleasing F1 fans. Aim for the younger / a new audience and it's not like as people remember it form it's heyday when it was actually good*. Fail to do so and they're doing it wrong because 1/2 the grid is borderline bankrupt and there's only 20 cars not 28 like there should be.

I think it has been delayed so that qualifying can link more easily into the concert rather than the other way round. I am not sure if I will stick around or go out in Austin. Will 100% be staying for Stevie Wonder after the race.Strikes me there's no pleasing F1 fans. Fair comment. Time will tell if the strategy is worthwhile, though they've been doing this sort of thing for a few years now with no noticeable effect on figures which have stayed steadily in decline.
Until this year when, with Liberty now in charge the decline has apparently halted.
The Bernie effect or a different way of counting perhaps?

Are many timerlake fans going to stump up F1 ticket prices to see him when they could just go to a timberlake concert? I suppose you can get cheap tix for the sat. Might be sweet for a lot of guys whose otherwise bored mildly stless wags now really want to go to the racetrack now though...;)Strikes me there's no pleasing F1 fans. The thing about the septics is they really do know how to make an occasion out of an event, this is how they do things, and while much can come across as overly commercialised it can be a great contrast to a lot of the half assed minimal effort offerings we get.
