2016 Grand Prix
This happened.
Rosberg was extremely happy to win this race, even more so becuse Lewis was only in 3rd, positioning which meant the German left Japan with a 33 point lead over his teammate.
This result meant that Mercedes wrapped up the constructors title in Japan, giving them their third consecutive title.
Described as one of the most technically challenging tracks on the calendar, Suzuka has played host to some major dramas in the past (Senna and Prost we're looking at you)
This year is likely to be equally tough fought, with Lewis leading by 34 points going into the weekend Vettel really needs a clean race and a good result if he's not to all but remove himself from the championship fight.

Lots of quick corners but the back 'straight' almost as long as the one in China (including a flat out 130R)...with a fairly high exit speed from Spoon. Relatively cool track temps expected (around 35 C), which should help Merc not overheat their tyres too much. RBs will be with their tail up here (literally and figuratively), after their performance in Malaysia, and they should do. Their car should eat some of these corners for breakfast.
Aero efficiency could well come into it due to the high exit speed from Spoon.
This should be interesting. Could well finish Ferraris title hopes or give them confidence. Glad it's only a few days away.
Expecting pole lap in the 1m27s. A good chance that the lap record could be broken. Current holder of the record is Kimi @ 2005.

What's the engine allocation for RB like? Max didn't push his in Malaysia I know, but they are not known for longevity. Aero efficiency could well come into it due to the high exit speed from Spoon.

Not one of the easiest circuits to overtake so an advantage to Merc, or at least LH, there I think.
It's got to be a cracker.

Not easy to overtake doesn't apply to Max. Not one of the easiest circuits to overtake so an advantage to Merc, or at least LH, there I think.

Seriously, he'll be one to watch here, he loves these fast and flowing old school tracks and it suits his driving style. And fresh off his 2nd GP win.
They took a penalty in Monza to get a fresh engine into the pool for both drivers, so they're good on engines.
Thanks for that. I forgot the penalties.
I regret to say that I've got the feeling that an up and buzzing Verstappen at a circuit like Suzuka is not something that will end happily. He needs to get on pole and be away from challenges. He could so easily overcook things.
But that's half the fun of him.
Could be good.

Hopefully FOM will release more videos like these, drivers briefing at the Malaysia GP;

Agreed he's been guilty of trying to win the race at the first corner on more than one occasion, but he didn't do that in Malaysia, waited for the right moment to overtake and won the race, maybe he's started to learn you can't win with three wheels.I regret to say that I've got the feeling that an up and buzzing Verstappen at a circuit like Suzuka is not something that will end happily. Seems to be something liberty media have brought back. It's brilliant. Really good insight. https://youtu.be/NOCTBsG52s8
Interesting the question about who pays for Grosjeans car repairs.

Latest I can find is that the gearbox has been flown back to Maranello for inspection, no news other than that.
Are they allowed to that? I thought once you opened it up and broke the seals it was penalties.HustleRussell said:
I love Suzuka
I wonder whether Mercedes' relative lack of pace in Malaysia was just a blip, or are we going to have Ferraris and Red Bulls all over the silver cars?
The weather will be a lot cooler, so their tyre temperature issues should not be such a big problem.I wonder whether Mercedes' relative lack of pace in Malaysia was just a blip, or are we going to have Ferraris and Red Bulls all over the silver cars?
Trouble is, the Ferraris are fast everywhere, lack of ultimate power will probably hold back RB, but, hopefully, another great race to enjoy.
