Interested to see what Red Bull bring this week.
.....I think they are a dark horse - sand bagging at the moment. Newey has never failed to produce a great aero car (I think??) - the new renault engine has made significant improvements by all accounts - I think they've decided to go at 7 tenths......

Pretty sure that Newey has produced at least one dud, albeit back in 2003.I think they are a dark horse - sand bagging at the moment. Anyway it will not matter how good the aero is if Renault haven't delivered the goods on the engine. Power will be just as important this year due to the higher drag to additional aero and tyres creates.

Most of the additional downforce is coming through the relaxing of the rules around the floor and diffuser, which is why they're all trying to run as much rake as possible and designing clever suspension to manage the rake as the downforce increases. This downforce won't increase drag though, so the importance of power won't be affected quite so much. But whatever the rules, more power is always going to move you towards the front.DanielSan said:
I'm amazed no one hasn't setup up a hasmclarenbroketoday.com page yet! 34 laps done and it's gone again!
Apparently an 'electrical issue'. Hopefully not like in the old days where that was a euphemism for exploding engine parts damaging the wiring as they escaped from the engine block.Honda also confirmed that it was the same spec engine as they ran last week, and not the updated Melbourne spec they'd hoped to run this week.

Red Bull have also been asking a lot of questions about oil use on the Merc (using it as a fuel in qualifying spec), so they're definitely looking at pegging them back a bit. Either that or deflecting from something they've done to their car.
Merc using oil as fuel in Qualifying spec? I haven't seen this story so have to ask, why what would the advantage be.Jabbah said:

It would allow you to increase the amount of fuel and therefore higher boost pressure and more power.http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/128387
