Red Bull in 2017
Discussion
I think its more about who has the most complete package... Red Bull are not a manufacturer team, nor will they be for some time the way they treated Renault.
I suspect RB to pick up a few points, but I reckon Mercedes will remain dominant, with 2/3rd a close fight between Ferrari & Red Bull.
After that it will be a 3 way between Williams/Mclaren/Renault. (Depending on if Honda have the goods power wise)

Is Newey still actively involved in their car design?
I suspect the Redbull will continue to be the best chassis, possibly even extending their lead in that regard... but I'd be surprised if Renault made enough of an improvement to the power plant for them to challenge Mercedes for the championship.

I think Red Bull's one-lap performance could mean that they are regularly fighting for poles.
However, over a race distance, more drag requires more power (energy) and so the balance will revert to Mercedes. Monaco should easily be in RB territory, like last year, which proves that you also have to get everything right - and M-B are pretty strong there.
I remain very hopeful that 2017 will produce a more exciting WCC than the last 3-years.

I'll be quite surprised if RBR don't dominate.
The formula is now heavily aero dependent, aero wise they have always been very good, in no small part due to the continued presence of a certain Mr Newey. Not only has the rule book tipped in their favour they actually formulated most of the rules - do you really think any team would do that in a fair way ? of course not. They'll have some tricks up their sleeves.
I think we'll see another Vettel-Webber scenario. Verstappen is Marko's golden boy and would appear to be faster than Danny, but maybe not quite as adaptable. The car will be on point and when all in control the crew cockups will subside.
Provided the Renault doesn't grenade itself frequently I really do think they are odds on for titles.

Does anyone care about the WCC? Ferrari aficionados say they do if their driver stands no chance at the WDC, but no one believes them. However, over a race distance, more drag requires more power (energy) and so the balance will revert to Mercedes. The teams certainly do! It's what determines how much money they get. For me, the two are about equal in terms of interest. I've always found F1 more interesting in terms of technology and engineering than racing but on the other hand it's far rarer for the WCC battle to actually be close than the WDC one.

I've followed teams rather than drivers for some years now, starting with Lotus, moving on to Brabham and the McLaren, but I've never bothered about the WCC. That said, I think the WDC is too artificial to worry about.

As an Aussie, I hope not. But I think Dan has a very different temperament to Webber and will handle it better.RBH58 said:

Dan is part of the RB academy, whereas Mark W was not.
And if not treated fairly I think Dan will have opportunities to walk into another championship contending manufacturer with equal or number 1 status - Mark would've only got that status by moving down the grid. Not sure we'll really know until the second race of the season. We haven't seen the final spec of any of the front-running cars yet and whilst aero is more important now, that's at the expense of drag...which will be overcome most effectively by thr most powerful engine, which I still think will be the Mercedes.

Daniel at Merc 2018 if Botty doesn't perform then? Vettel wouldn't let him join Ferrari for another humiliation.
Dan is good, but would never humiliate Seb in a Ferrari. They would be close, but Seb is a master of an aero designed car, as this years cars are. When they were team mates, I am certain Seb lifted off a little in order to trigger his performance clause to release him from his contract, in order to wear red the following year. I'm not sure why he gets so much stick after being a four times world champion, regardless of him being in a dominant (less so than the great Lewis's Merc) car.
