New Job - F1 Paddock - Need help
Discussion
Afternoon all,
A week on Monday I start in a new role as a Trackside Tyre Engineer for Pirelli F1. My experience to date is as a Data and Performance Engineer in the BTCC, British GT, Blancpain and VLN Series.
I'm wondering whether anyone has any good text books they'd recommend for vehicle dynamics or tyres? I've got 'Race Car Vehicle Dynamics' by Miliken and Miliken which is currently my bible.
Any suggestions for further reading would be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Hope-Elise

Sorry, have I posted in the wrong area, or is what I've asked confusing?
I think it was a gesture of surprise that you seem to have got this job and you are asking this question ! He's a data engineer. He plays with numbers and I'm guessing feeds back the results of how those numbers are changing to other engineers.
But sounds like he want's to expand his knowledge outside of the scope of his specific job, and thought a bit of book reading might be a way to do it.
Asking for any additional reading resources? Apologies if it's come across that I'm asking for GCSE textbooks. I've just seen a lot of race engineers on here from f1, btcc, gt and wondered whether they had any 'go to' resources for vehicle dynamics or tyres. There are so many books available and vehicle dynamics books are notoriously riddled with errors. I just thought I'd ask the question to see if I could further enhance my knowledge...

Thank you. Apart from the fact I'm a women, rather than a man. Your sentiment is right. I was a data engineer and I'm now spending the next year as an intern for Pirelli. I have read a huge number of books on VD and tyres to get to where I am. It was a simple question asking if there were any textbook recommendations. He's a data engineer. Going to be honest, wasn't expecting those kinds of replies. Thank you for your support.

I will also confess to being very jealous of you spending a career in an F1 paddock, certainly my dream place to work!

Bit highlighted in bold is key, makes a little more sense. Can't recommenced a book but you are in the right place when they turn up some good folk here with a plethora of experience.

Apology accepted I will also confess to being very jealous of you spending a career in an F1 paddock, certainly my dream place to work!
Although I'm not sure I agree that being an intern or an experience hire makes any difference in my request. I don't know a single race engineer who still doesn't use textbooks/internet as resources to further their understanding. It would be incredibly arrogant to assume that you couldn't learn any more. I appreciate if it came across as 'I've got an F1 job and I've got no idea what I'm doing' but evidently, that would never have been the case.

There is plenty of reading material available - but we'll fill you in with everything you need to know...

P.S. bring Krispy Kreme's on your first Didcot day!
I sense a little bit of jealousy in this thread! (With a side of mild sexism.)
I think it shows great forward thinking that anyone taking on a new job is looking for reading material on the subject, especially as an intern going into a new role within the industry.
Sorry I can't be of any help on the textbooks, Hope, but I had to weigh in here.

Thanks Jess. I actually can't tell whether people are being rude or joking 😂I'll assume the latter..I think it shows great forward thinking that anyone taking on a new job is looking for reading material on the subject, especially as an intern going into a new role within the industry.

Networking on social media? It'll never work!
Hope, don't forget to start a thread detailing your experiences. It would make a good read.
I'm really not sure whether you're being serious or whether you're being rude. I'd happily start a thread and tell you about my journey!Hope, don't forget to start a thread detailing your experiences. It would make a good read.
