McLaren are saying they would be disappointed if they end up 4th in WCC this year. After so many disappointing years, where do you think they will end up?

I thought they were going for the Championship in 2017.McLaren are saying they would be disappointed if they end up 4th in WCC this year. After so many disappointing years, where do you think they will end up?
McLaren seem to be full of promises the last number of years yet fall well short.
It is going to be better than 2016 but not much.
I've voted for 3rd, which is the best I think they can hope for if they don't fk up. With all the optimism in the world I can't see them beating Mercedes or Red Bull, but they should be able to overhaul Williams and Force India if Honda have learned from the last two years and really deliver with their all-new engine. I've also voted them above Ferrari, not really as a positive for McLaren rather than a negative for the red team. I can easily see Ferrari having a horrible year, with their apparent weak leadership on all fronts.
The big unknown in all of this is who will make the most of the new regulations. It could just follow last season's form book, or somebody could make a leap ahead of the pack. Only time will tell.

I'd be surprised if they got higher than 5th. Merc & Red bull are still going to be the pace setters with ferrari after that. I reckon it'll be force India for 4th. This will leave mclaren fighting for 5th, but I wouldn't be surprised if toro rosso or Williams will beat them. All in all I doubt there will be much change from last year.
Also rans.
In the last 20 years McLaren have won 3 drivers titles and 1 constructors title. People would argue that two of those drivers title were by Adrian Newey's design, others would argue the third by Hamilton.
They seem to spend too much time searching for a magic bullet every year; the u-shaped side pods, f-duct, otctopous exhaust, size zero engine, etc.
Most of which don't seem to work, the most successful car I remember them building in the last few years was the 2012 car, no special tricks, just a nicely though out car, but sadly not reliable.

I think 3rd is realistic. Mercedes and Red Bull will be 1st tier. Ferrari/McLaren 2nd tier. Force India/Williams/Renault/Toro Rosso/Haas 3rd Tier. Sauber tootling around at the back ruining Wehrlein's career. I'm hoping Manor are there but they may miss the first couple of races if they are rescued.
I think their final position could be dictated by - the size of Ferrari's meltdown enabling them to reach up higher, and the competency of Stroll to score consistent points meaning one less team snapping at their heels when things get tight points wise.
Im expecting a solid points scoring year with podium finishes on merit.

I take it that we are assuming that Renault will continue to be also-rans?
Outside the top 3, possibly Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari, I think there will be Williams, Force India, McLaren and Renault all having reasonable aspiration at getting 4th, but could easily be 7th, or worse.
And the one thing we can be reasonably certain about is that Mercedes will not have allowed their PU to fall back in performance. I think McLaren could easily be being way too optimistic, given that the new Honda PU has yet to drive a car for real.
McLaren should shut down their PR department until they have some solid results behind them. But maybe, just maybe, they might have found the magic bullet for the new aero rules and they will cruise to an easy win, like many of us would really welcome.

F duct was a massive success
I seem to remember that the 2nd brake pedal was successful too, until it was banned? And the f duct was successful because everyone copied it. No bigger compliment.
Unfortunately - it was one of the easier copies.

Who is writing the McLaren press releases this year ?
I'm guessing they did their training at Jackanory as I have never heard such a load of nonsense from them - pure fantasy based on their last few years poor efforts.
They need advertisers and they also need to look supa confident to the board.I'm guessing they did their training at Jackanory as I have never heard such a load of nonsense from them - pure fantasy based on their last few years poor efforts.
I wonder at what point Honda will bail.
