Ron Dennis Suspended!
Discussion
Ah. So all 3 parties have known that the Chinese have been in play for some time...RD spent some time over there last year and this year, yet now the bid is considered not desirable. Smacks of double standards to me and sour grapes too. I'd imagine the atmosphere at Dennis' daughter's wedding might be a little strained...

Looks like it's all to do with his trying to buy it back, if they succeed in getting rid of him that's me finished with the team I think.
Some would consider that it's now personal between Ojjeh and him. It seems common knowledge that it was Ojjeh that persuaded Mumtalak to agree to apply pressure on him once the final deadline had passed. Others might consider that the objections have been raised because alternative plans are already in place and this development scuppers them. But certainly two of the names in the frame have ruled themselves out, so who knows?LaurasOtherHalf said:

I've followed McL since MP4 started and Dennis took over. Ups and downs included. I can't see me staying as a supporter if RD goes. It would be a different team.Derek Smith said:

My only thought is his suspension may be tied into his take over biding that in order for the bid to go ahead he has to be impartial and can't be a director, though if that was the case you'd imagine he'd simply step down.
Hypothesising a little (and no doubt over the weekend Ted Kravitz will get a better decent handle on things)
I think when they removed Whitmarsh, Dennis promised them the world in F1 terms. And it simply hasn't materialised. I suspect that when it was going wrong, RD dug his heels in and wouldn't listen to alternatives.
Hence the board losing faith in him. He obviously intended to buy them all out, and make it HIS company again. But he's what? 70ish now? How long would he have been able to keep control of it all. 5 years? 10? Probably no longer and it's 8 years since they last wona WDC. I appreciate with the best will in the world he'll probably die there since he works very hard at it. But surely he can see that the time is right to step back and KNOW that he turned a (then) failing team into a hugely successful one.

You're right in a number of areas. But ultimately the lesson is don't go into business with your friends. The most prescient word is 'HIS' - that's what drives him. I'll stop there, but insight into his character from talking to people who know him well is very illuminating and goes a long way to contextualising his behaviour. I still admire him, faults and all.I think when they removed Whitmarsh, Dennis promised them the world in F1 terms. And it simply hasn't materialised. That eejit would struggle to get a handle on the front door. But times change
Watching his Notebooks on the Sky website after broadcast, does tend to show up more things than C4 even suggest might be going on.
He also asks much better questions of drivers and is a bit more fearless when asking team principals interesting stuff too.

But to refer to RB running a 'thicker' rear wing than other teams does indicate a certain lack of technical understanding.

Agreed. If Ron is forced out then I don't have any time for a team or company that behaves in that way towards someone who has been so instrumental in the development of the team and the brand. If this happens I might have to defect to Williams!
