Fastest Race Lap: 1:14.832 (L. Hamilton; Mercedes)

High altitude favours the current forced inducation cars at interlagos, and it is likely that several drivers will lap faster than Juan Pablo Montoya's 2004 race lap record of 1:11.473 in Q3. This is, of course, barring the possible threat of changeable weather in high and humid Interlagos. The current formula is a double edged sword however in that we can expect the race laptimes in 2016 to trail the lap record by a couple of seconds.

Interlagos is one of my favourites- a classic track which has seen the final twist in many a season. The intensity of 71 short laps on a circuit with no real straight, dramatic elevation changes and that turn one which presents brave and spectacular overtaking opportunities... especially on lap one.

Bold prediction!

Hamilton goes well around here, iirc this is one of those circuits where he is generally a cut above in all sessions. As such I predict either Hamilton win, or (more likely) spectacular mechanical failure or non-fault crash for Hamilton with Rosberg taking the championship with a conservative drive to the podium.

I thought he had never managed to win here in 9 outings, despite at least four of those visits being in a Championship winning car?

You're right, and for Hamilton. it's a very big weekend for the championship, Nico could take the title or end up behind Lewis in the standings. He's in a nice position but there is huge pressure now.

Interesting that last year's RB car didn't perform quite so well at this track. It will be interesting to see whether Ferrari or RBR can play a role in the WDC by being a threat to a slower Merc driver's chances.

It will be good to see Rosberg win one of the remaining races atleast, to show that he's not cruising...gotta win the Championship with some style. On the other hand, Hamilton will be on it, and weather could play a part here. Looking forward to it!

I am rather hoping for a wet race (n.b. I do mean race, not "procession behind safety car").

Sadly from what others have said this years extreme wets are not up to the job so we probably won't see a race even if it does rain - did they ever sort out the drainage at the circuit?

I'm predicting Vettel will be really polite all race. Moaning about Verstappen makes it look like he's getting to him.

Massa to overtake Hamilton on the last lap to deny him the championship whilst calmly saying "Ain't payback sweet" on the radio lol wink

What would the race result need to be for the Mercs to go to the final race even on points?

My only prediction is that Nico is unlikely to overtake anybody on the track for position.

Hamilton win and Rosberg 7th. Hamilton 2nd and Rosberg DNF would leave Rosberg 1 point ahead.

I really, really would like to see this happen. Sorry Nico, but I want to see you fight and win the Championship not having it gifted due to reliability..

Rosberg DNF due to reliability.

Hamilton to finish 2nd.

Vettel to drop the c-bomb on radio.

IT does not look like teams have any confidence that the Hard will be an effective race tyre.
