Camping at Silverstone. Pitch size and new tent.
Discussion
Evening all,
We've got family tickets for the F1 next year and camping from Wednesday.
We've never been camping before so I'm going to be buying new tents and stuff.
Ive had a thread running in the camping section and I think I have decided on a tent but I'm not sure whether it will be suitable for the pitches at the Woodlands site.
I believe the pitches are 7 metres.
Ive found a really good deal on a Berghaus Air 6, but its 7.3m long.
Has anyone used one of these tents as Woodlands and is it been a little bigger a problem.
I don't want to be outcast for breaking some kind of camping ethics law

Take a toilet tent with you. The campsite ones tend to get a bit of a challenge after a day or two.
Mind you, I returned to my tent one year to find a queue for my toilet.
Thanks. Something else on my list of stuff to buy. Mind you, I returned to my tent one year to find a queue for my toilet.
Anyone know if the tent I mentioned would be ok?
I've only camped in the 'lively' part (twice) but whenever I've turned up they've just gone "park here..." I've had two small tents and a car on the pitch with plenty of room to have a sitting area. Having said that 7m is pretty big but I doubt there would be any issues especially if you are turning up on Wednesday or Thursday.
I've only camped at Whittlebury on the driving range and all the pitches were marked out.
All depends on whether your neighbours are using all of their space, many park a car or camper right on the boundary so as to maximise their own space, and don't forget you'll need some space for your guy ropes.....you won't know until you get there so you might be better off with something smaller.

I believe the only place they enforce pitch size at woodlands is the electric hook up areas. Anywhere else is pretty much grab as much space as you need before they park the next tent to you (which at peak times happens pretty quicky).
For example, The 4 people behind us last year had 2x 8 man tunnel tents with 1 of them huge event shelters between them!

Thanks all. I'll take a punt and hope for the best.
Have you considered contacting them to see how 'strict' they are on size?30cm isn't a great deal over but, as mentioned before, the guy ropes will encrouch on the pitches either side by a decent amount.
Your neighbours will more than likely be OK with this, though there's always a chance they won't be.
Lastly, have fun!!

If you don't own a tent and have never been camping why not try a pre-erected tent at CampingF1 and see if you like it before shelling out on your own stuff.
Scratch that as I see you're now tent enabled.
We did use CampingF1 this year though (own tents) and they didn't seem to fussed about size.

I could have borrowed a tent and all the gear I need from a number of friends.Scratch that as I see you're now tent enabled.

Wifey has declared she wants to do camping so I thought I might as well buy the gear.
