Massa to retire

Felipe is to retire from F1 at the end of the season.
Wonder if he will carry on racing and who will get his seat at Williams ?
About bloody time. He's never struck me as worthy of a F1 drive. I know he won a lot of races and came about half a lap from fluking a championship. But he's never displayed any of the qualities that Kimi or Seb or Lewis or Jenson or Michael or whoever. In many ways Nico and Felipe (and Perez) are very similar in terms of ability and style.Wonder if he will carry on racing and who will get his seat at Williams ?
I imagine that his average-ness had kept Valteri or Hulk out of decent drives for years
Personally I think it's time for him to retire; however I will be sad to see him leave.
I will always remember the dignity he showed after "loosing" the championship at Interlagos in 2008. To show such composure and passion after an emotional end to his home race was an inspiration.
I wish him good luck in whatever comes next....

Make your mind up, you can't have it both ways! If he does retire he won't be driving for anyone next year, now will he.Wonder if he will carry on racing and who will get his seat at Williams ?

Well - I really hope Button goes there .. but he will probably price himself out of the drive and give the excuse they are not a championship contender.
I don't. I don't see the point of Button going to Williams from either perspective. Button is towards the end of his career and Williams seem to be lost for form at the moment. Button in the 2014/15 Williams that had podium potential might have been interesting, but cruising around trying to pick up the odd 9th or 10th place.......... well what is in it for Jenson? Unlike McLaren, Williams have little chance of being contenders in the near future due to the lack of resources or an engine manufacturer backing them. Claire Williams stated the team have not ruled out a "driver with a budget" - as I read it that is code for "whoever pays the most will be driving for Williams next year". Nasr, Stroll or maybe Perez (although why would he want to go there?).

Totally disagree that he didn't belong in F1.
Massa may not have necessarily been top line but he had his days and remember he was paired with guys like Schumacher, Raikkonen Mk.1 and Alonso, all world champions and two of them ultra ruthless and super competitive, yet held his own.
If Ferrari had not left the fuel hose attached in Singapore he may even have won that championship comfortably.
For him to come back as he did from the accident in 2009 and still push Fernando hard on occasion shows he had ability and it belittles his courage in coming back from that injury and still being competitive.
Many were saying Bottas was the next coming at one point but in my view they have been pretty much even stevens at Williams, possibly Massa even slightly ahead due to greater experience.

Totally agree; 15 years in F1 is quite an achievement given the normal life span is around 5-6 years max unless you have some degree of talent.Massa may not have necessarily been top line but he had his days and remember he was paired with guys like Schumacher, Raikkonen Mk.1 and Alonso, all world champions and two of them ultra ruthless and super competitive, yet held his own.

Fully agree. An all round nice guy as well. Yes he was a bit firey in years gone by but in the last few years he really did have a good head on his shoulders and personally I think the fact he is jacking it in like this shows he knows his stuff and can walk the walk. I like JB and he is a great driver but actually of all the drivers from the last few years he is one of the only ones who would not stop and talk, him and any Ferrari driver. Although Kimi was fine when he was at Lotus so I think its just a team thing.Massa may not have necessarily been top line but he had his days and remember he was paired with guys like Schumacher, Raikkonen Mk.1 and Alonso, all world champions and two of them ultra ruthless and super competitive, yet held his own.

A very personal explanation from Massa on why he's made the decision.
