I thought that chance was long gone after the McLaren move. Both those Force India chaps really do shine on their day though don't they. I'd still like to see both in top level cars (the Ferrari just about counts!).

The linked article in the OP looks like a case of 2+2=5

Chico is a st load better than his non season at Mclaren allowed him to show.

Fair dos, he's no Hamilton (but as good on his good days) but i would not put much between him and Rosberg on the talent and ability stakes...

Why the hate for Perez, he's clearly a world class driver?

I'd love to see him in Kimi's Ferrari.

He's one of the better ones on the grid.
As mentioned, going there to play second fiddle to Vettel wouldn't be a good idea though on the face of it IMHO.

He's getting the better of Hulkenburg and many people were saying Ferrari should hire him.

Wasn't he originally linked to Ferrari ages ago anyway (on some sort of driver development scheme)?

Or do I have that wrong? smile

I'm sure that I heard he had ties with Ferrari when he first appeared in F1. I may be going mad though (in general).

No, you are correct. He was a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, but he had to give it up when he signed for McLaren.

...where he regularly hassled and harangued world champion Jenson Button, becoming mired in team orders and internal politics, his frustration occasionally manifesting itself in the form of uncharacteristic collisions with team mate and other competitors.

I've been a fan since that stand out drive in the Sauber in 2012 when for a moment it looked as though he might have a go at Alonso for the win.

Since then, as has already mentionned, he has acquitted himself very well at Force India generally at least a match for much rated team-mate Hulkenberg.

Wasn't he going to Ferrari mid-2012 to replace Massa?

I'm not getting my hopes up for him getting another shot in a big team. It would be great though. Surely between him and Grosjean as to who gets to replace Kimi if he retires this season.

Hulkenberg always used to be in the frame for the Ferrari drive. Although I like Hulkenberg, I can't think of any particular reason you'd choose him over Perez.

I think I'd like to see Grosjean in the Ferrari most of all

I don't think Vettel would have a particularly easy ride with any of these drivers.

i think that would be a great move. rate him highly. more so than hulkenberg. he should stick to WEC and le mans ;-)

he has hadlike 6 podium finishes in a very mid table car. manages tyres well, very smooth and knows how to handle pressure much better now.

perez is a bit like button in the way he drives and manages tyres plus reads races.

I think he will get a top seat sooner or later. time for button, Alonso and a few of the other seniors to step aside.

I just kind of see him as an also ran, there's one move in particular that he made at Monaco at the end of the tunnel that I just thought 'donkey' while he was in a McLaren, but other than that he just seems to drive round slowly forever before pitting

One good race and all this crazy speculation? I don't see it personally. I can understand why Ferrari might want to replace Raikkonen but really they should stick with him until a proven winner or 'special' comes along. I'm thinking Ricciardo, Verstappen, Hamilton, Rosberg, etc.

Perez is a solid enough performer but I don't see anything to suggest he is suddenly super fast, in many ways he is similar to the ageing Raikkonen - not that hot in qualifying and a bit of a plodder in the race who will pick up good results if/when things fall his way.... but you never get the impression he is going to make something happen in the same way as a Verstappen or Ricciardo can.

Ferrari rarely seem to take on unproven drivers and given the positive comments from Arrivabene and Sergio Marchionne earlier this year I think they are planning to stick with their current line up for 2017.... unless Raikkonen starts crashing out or falling off the pace again.

And Grosjean? No way. The guy is still a liability... one moment he is telling everyone how the car is the best he has ever driven (er, despite driving the race winning Lotus for 2 seasons and getting nowhere near his team mate) and the next moment he is slagging the car & the team off down the radio in public earshot. Yes these last 2.5 years he looks impressive but then look at the benchmarks he has had - Maldonado and Gutiérrez. Put him in the Ferrari pressure cooker alongside Vettel and he would have a meltdown within half a dozen races.
