Paul Di Resta confirmed at reserve driver for Williams:

Good to see another Brit with a chance of appearing on the F1 grid this season all be it a slim one. In my opinion he was good but not great, a safe pair of hands and quite methodical so maybe his driving style would suit the current hybrid systems. Also a good year to be in the F1 frame with all the contracts that are running our at the end of the year but if he doesn't get a run in the car I still doubt he'll be on any of the teams radars unless he can secure major sponsorship which he failed to do in 2013.

That's alright, Williams reserve drivers tend not to get anywhere unless they've got big backing. I don't think we'll see the Whingemeister on the grid again anytime soon, if at all. Don't forget Adrian Sutil was the reserve driver last year; where is he now?

Shame they did not give a younger aspiring driver the chance

Is there any benefit to the driver in being a reserve driver? With in season testing being next to naught the days of Olivier Panis matching Coulthard and Hakkinen in testing to renew their esteem is surely gone.

Exactly. Mind you, his dad is rich enough to fund at least some Friday drives. I couldn't figure out why they didn't try to tie up a deal with one of the teams on a par with Jolyon Palmer's deal with Enstone last year.

If you can't get a drive it's probably your next best option. If one of the main drivers can't race for some reason you get a shot but even if that doesn't happen you get your pit passes and can spend your time networking up and down the pit lane, reminding people you're still alive and available when all those contracts expire at the end of this season.

Will it help him get back in to an F1 car? Not sure, but it's his best bet.
