After a bit of advice from people who've been to the Singapore GP. It looks like I might get the opportunity to attend this race but unsure if getting a general admission walk about ticket is OK or I should get one of the cheaper grandstands.

What are the GA views like on race day? Does it get as busy as Silverstone?

I can't help but I'm interested too as I'm in the same boat. I don't want to book my ticket until they release the artists for the after race shows as they appear on different stages and I don't want to book a grandstand seat in the wrong sector and not be able to get into the other sectors if a big act is on. (or do they open all sectors after the race?)

I've been for the lat 3 years , always on a 3 day premier walkabout ticket,( on the basis that I'm too tight to pay for the expensive stand seats, and the walkabout is better than the cheap ones biggrin )
Premier walkabout gets you all zones. After the race (and practice/qualy) you can go to any of the entertainment zones on a premier ticket, but if you only have a zone 3/4 you cant go to the stages in zone 1 (f1 village/startline area)

there are some good viewing areas in zone 1/2 , they even now have some seated areas for walkabout tickets inside last corner, but get there v. early. Also tiered standing areas on start finish straight, and one well hidden one outside turn 3 (opp pit exit)
Zone 4 tends to be VERY busy as these are the cheaper tickets.
If you study the circuit map there are some areas where you can get pretty close to the action.

With a zone 1/2 ticket you can also get close to the support race pits for a look around (through the fence)

If you haven't' been to SG before, its a fantastic place to visit IMHO.
Get a hotel close to on of the MRT (tube) lines and its easy and cheap to get to the circuit as well.

Not sure if I will go again this year or not.
PH meetup anyone ?

PS - the main stage at the Padang (zone 4 ) gets absolutely rammed after the race.

Well I'm even tighter and am looking at Zone 4 only frown

Does that mean that I will not be able to access the stages in Zone 1,2,3 even after the race/quali?

Yes, that is correct although it is worth noting that the main headlining entertainment acts have been in the Padang, which is in zone 4. Last year they were Farrell Williams, Maroon 5 and Bon Jovi.

As said above, the Padang gets completely rammed near the front and middle, it isn't so bad near the back, although you are further away from the acts.

I've been the last two years and have gone for tickets which give a seat in a different stand each night which gives a bit of variety, but they are quite expensive.

I am leaning towards the premier 3 day walkabout. Still quite pricey but not too bad considering it might be my only opportunity to visit this race.

Any hotel recommendations are also welcome.

We went a few years back.

Stayed at the fabulous Club Hotel on Ann Siang Road. Hotel is on the corner near loads of bars / restuarants and dead close to China Town. They knew we were coming for the F1 and my 40th, and we felt like Royalty. Roof top bar was great place to chill out.

Don't bother getting a taxi anywhere. With half the city centre roads closed, you'll be paying to sit in traffic. Use the underground, it's air conditioned and fast, clean and at 5'11" I felt like a giant on there!

We had grandstand seats opposite the start line for FP and Qualy, then a walkabout ticket for the race. Worked brilliantly giving us the opportunity to sit opposite the pits when there was lots of action on. Then we spent the rest of the time wandering round the various free standing areas while the support races were on until we found our ideal spot. (Just opposite the entrance to the pits, final turn onto the start finish straight).

It's damn hot, all the time. We stayed on UK time, which meant we were eating at odd times, but it meant we didn't miss much sleeping.

I'd love to go back. Oh and they have proper 3 pin plugs, sign of a civilised society in my book.

Anybody interested in clubbing together for a group buy tickets? If we're all going in the same area, it seems sensible. If we can get 8 people we get a small reduction in the price but worth it. I was thinking the Bay Grandstand tickets, which if we can get 8 people, the price is $258 (£133) for a 3 day pass in Zone 3&4 that's if we buy in the next 2 weeks.

If you wait until after 2nd May and buy under 3 tickets, you will be paying $298 (£154) so about 15% cheaper?

Well I'm going againbounce

If anyone wants to meet up for beers let me know drink
arriving Wed leaving Monday.

I've been in Singapore many time for work and will try to help with any questions.

tip of the day - dont be conned into a 'premium' taxi from the airport rank, regular ones are fine, and cheaper.

Eta -I'm on a premier walkabout ticket

It is Singapore weather, so there is very heavy rain once a day (or twice, as there was a tremendous downpour an hour ago) and crippling humidity the rest of the time - it is always, always the same. A bar owner here told us a few years ago that in Singapore there are two types of weather: inside weather, where you have air conditioning, and outside weather. That's it.

I did manage a month there (August 2013) with almost no humidity at all... was lovely, made a great location even better!

Its sweaty... has been 2 thunder storms today and Im undecided if I should get the saturday or sunday walk about ticket.

Saturday is the drinking day and I believe that I won't be able to do much of that on the Sunday if I go and watch the race.

Saturday is $168
Sunday is $198

Both SGD

Im usually at bungie bar (I forget the price but its been $200 for an evening of beers between 2 before) just up from there with a PHer or two having a few beers.

Usually I get an apartment in ChinaTown when Im needed for a visit, this time due to GrandPrix Im out in Clementi, which is a little bit of a trek on the tubes that are oh so slow compared to London tubes.
