"Send me an Internet!" Is Ron out of touch?
Discussion
Interesting article on Ron Dennis and the ongoing struggle at McLaren.

Ron is 106 years old and in that time he has achieved an awful lot. I think it may be time for him to retire and concentrate on mowing his lawn to an exactingly precise standard.
When Williams went completely st a few years ago Frank recognised it was time to roll aside in favour of his daughter Claire and look how well they're doing now.

What a load of rubbish. Had Honda provided a top engine that article would be totally different.
It's a long term project to get the F1 team back to the top.
I totally agree, seems like someone has taken a few anecdotes, embellished them and painted a very dark picture. The McLaren chassis looks good, they have two top drivers and had the engine been a success, the 2015 season would have been quite different I'm sure. It's a long term project to get the F1 team back to the top.
or maybe Ron is taking tips from Bernie?
How long could McLaren last without an F1 team on the grid?
One would assume they're now well enough established to shift road cars with the reputation they've built up over the years but for how long?
If they were to go the way of Brabham, et al. because of Ron's stubbornness (or, if the article is to be believed, being out of touch), how long could McLaren survive?

And another article where Boullier escapes any sort of criticism.
Surely Boullier is directly responsible for delivering the F1 results, while Ron as Group Chariman doesn't have such a direct role in F1? If you are going to blame anyone in McLaren for their current fortunes (rather than point the finger squarely at Honda) should it not be the F1 team principal? You don't see Dietrich Mateschitz getting the same criticism for Red Bull's faltering performance.

Sponsors have departed due to poor performance, and yes the rate card.
Ron is probably aware that IF the Honda power plant is good next year, Alonso and Button will be right up there.
If they are, then the sponsors would be getting a cheap deal if Ron lowered the rates.
For me, the big problem is, I don't see Honda beating Merc, Ferrari next year.
No idea where that leaves the team/Ron.
So what if Ron doesn't know what an email is - look at the McLaren Technolgy Centre: lots to people in Woking who know what an email is and more. Also Adrian Newey still designs his cars on a drawing board with paper and pen and he isn't accused of being past it.
Just to counter the blog by Will Buxton, here's an extract from a recent blog by Joe Saward,
"To understand the team one needs to understand that Dennis is a man who values control. He likes things being done his way, but he listens and trusts people enough to let them try things. However, the team has not been as successful as it used to be and Ron is keen to get back on top. These things take time but he has given that job to Eric Boullier and it is a work in progress. It’s hard to know how well it is going because Honda’s problems are obscuring the level of performance."

I also don't see them beating Merc or Ferrari next year. There is also Red Bull to consider. I think they will improve on this year, but I think they will be in the top 10, nothing more. Sponsors have departed due to poor performance, and yes the rate card.

Best cut him some slack. And as for Williams, it was the smart appointment of Pat Symonds that led to their revival, not traybake Claire...When Williams went completely st a few years ago Frank recognised it was time to roll aside in favour of his daughter Claire and look how well they're doing now.
