Alfa Romeo returning to F1.
Discussion
From the internet:
According to Sergio Marchionne, Alfa Romeo is in all probability set to make a return to formula One. Ansa.it reports the CEO of Alfa Romeo’s parent company said today, “It’s amazing how the Alfa Romeo brand remains close to people’s hearts and for this reason we are thinking of bringing it back to Formula One”.
Whilst Marchionne is not categorical about this, he is not a man to float ideas that are non-starters. “It is important for Alfa to return,” adds Marchionne, “it will be another competitor”.
Goodness me.
A whole new team, or will it be Sauber/RBR that change name?
I suppose a new team makes more sense - Ferrari have done quite well from the slow drawn out entry of Haas, so why not bring in a B team for 2018? Plenty of time to allow unlimited development partnerships.

Well guys,
unfortunately the translation was done inaccurately, what he really meant is that Alfa will return to racing, but definitely not in F1. When RB was looking for an engine supply, one of the options on the table was to provide Ferrari-rebranded PUs, but that was discarded quite quickly.
What will happen is that Alfa will come back to Touring car or Endurance. Not bad all in all, and closer to recent years' racing heritage for Alfa.

Joe Saward is now running the story of their return to F1. It would be unlike him not to have checked such details.

http://www.corriere.it/sport/formula-1/notizie/fer...And Ferrari are threating to take their ball and not play if they introduce new engine regs that would limit the F1 engines any more

Ecclestone has spoken of his desire to see cheaper engines used by all teams, but Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne is not impressed with the proposals.
"Ferrari would find other ways to express its ability to race and to win," Motorsport.com quote the Ferrari president as saying.
"It would be a huge shame [if Ferrari turned their back on F1], but Ferrari cannot be put in a corner on its knees and say nothing.
