I've been thinking F1 needs a massive revamp in terms of appearance and concept, to my eyes this looks about 10 times better than the current cars even with a closed cockpit, covered wheels etc....

I like it. I can see F1 going closed cockpit in the next 10 years. The concept also has low profile tyres, which is once again something that has been discussed before.

Michelin wanted to do it as they could utilise the data from other races series that all use low profile tyres.

I think the wheel shrouds look a little clumsy compared to the rest of the car.

I see the concept is also fitted with wheel discs. Weren't F1 cars using these 5 years ago. I never really understood what the benefit was.

what's the point in open wheel race cars that aren't?

might just as well replace with WEC LMP1 cars.

They could leave the front wheels uncovered and put the rear wheels in a shroud/arch. The majority of rollovers I've ever seen in F1 have been front to rear wheel contact. Front to front usually just results in broken suspension.

Have you seen the current indycars? They look like they belong on a fairground ride, with the semi enclosed rear wheels...its not a good look.
