I was a huge Hill fan as a kid, but in 95 he had a nightmare of a season. At the time I saw hitting Schumacher at Silverstone as payback for '94, but watching it these days it looks like the most wildly optimistic overtake in the world. I can only assume his head was all over the place after '94:

One that was new to me was Hakkinen just totally blowing it in 99 at Monza. I don't remember much about this season other than Schumacher breaking his leg, but Mika seems utterly furious with himself:

What?????!!!!!!! A piston heads thread that shows other world champions bksing it up instead of Hamilton.....surely we can't have this......according to the world of piston heads every other driver is perfect and Hamilton is the only one ever to have made a mistake in his life....

....just watch this turn into another hate thread!

Schumacher driving into the back of Coulthard at Spa, in the pissing rain and then accusing Coulthard of trying to kill him.

Remember this one - Schumi was in the pitlane trying to take on Coulthard:

Although I think Coulthard later apologised and blamed his inexperience at the time.

One of the first F1 moments I clearly remember (I was 10). I was a big McLaren fan at the time (I liked DC, mainly because the first time I really watched F1 I wanted a driver to support and I didn't want to support the guy leading the race (probably Schumi) so I picked DC).

Not sure if he could be classed as a great driver but a F1 driver nonetheless and certainly an unbelievable mistake

IIRC he said he used the braking point from single-seater racing? A bit of a difference in weight! hehe

Was it Heidfield who just about took the door off the safety car?

In the 1991 Canadian Grand Prix, Nigel Mansell was waving to the crowd for the last few corners of the last lap, his victory in sight, when he accidentally switched the engine off.

Now I'm off to check my facts in case that's now how it happened.

Wikipedia said:
Mansell, while waving to the crowd during the final lap, had allowed his engine revs to fall too low and he stalled the car. With the engine stalled it was not possible to select a gear, and he was forced to retire, the official reason being an electrical failure.

Didn't Schumi also drive into the back of a Minardi (or some slower team) on the way round to the grid?

...and of course Vettel into the back of Webber under safety car

Fisichella, on two separate occasions, caused an aborted start by, not just parking in the wrong grid slot, but parking on wrong side of the grid.

I remember Coulthard binning his car on the parade lap; can't remember when, where or for which team he was driving though.
