It could be showing them just how much it will cost them financially to break the contract (for Alonso, not Button as I believe there was a break clause).

Also, Alonso is using the upgraded engine this weekend. We will see how that goes. They also (I think) have the ability to undertake massive upgrades before next season - I suspect Honda will throw a lot at this and get a much improved unit - let's face it, they are now running engines through the weekend without (usually) exploding....
