Red Bull - Honda...?
Discussion
Rumour is that if Christian can't get a decent enough engine supply, DM will try and sell Torro Rosso to someone else and use the Milton Keynes boys for another project, possibly WEC team. It might keep Adrian Newry interested enough to build an LMP1 car, they can buy the powertrain from Audi and it would be quite a fk you to F1 and a good coup for WEC.....just a rumour of course

Sounds like an excuse to post a picture of Newey's Red Bull concept from Gran Turismo to me I would be disappointed to see Red Bull take part in WEC as anything other than a sponsor (and there is great logic to Red Bull sponsoring endurance races of course) because of the attitude they have displayed in F1. The thought of them trying to drive the regulations to their own end rather than genuine desire to improve technology as seems to be the case for the current LMP1 teams does not inspire me.
I thought Honda said they may be able to supply customer teams from 2017 but with McLaren contracted as the works team that presumably wouldn't interest Red Bull anyway.

He'll just close the gates on Torro Rosso and walk away from F1. He can get around the $500m golden handcuffs easily enough as both teams are owned by a company worth less than $4m.It's quite an assumption that Audi would sell a power train to RBR, they may want to keep all of their tech in-house.

Jenson staying with McLaren shows that he is optimistic about Honda's chances next year.
I think Jenson staying with Mclaren shows that they've offered him quite a lot of money and he knows there no competitive seats available elsewhere. Quite rightly too, the team currently need experienced drivers capable of helping them with car development more than they need up-and-coming drivers capable of delivering the odd exceptional race day. longblackcoat said:

... it's for good reason Red Bull now looks to greener pastures.
Grabbing Ferrari, Honda and Renault by the scruff, dragging them around the barn to flog the snot out of them every other Sunday, not one iota does Daimler-Mercedes benefit. Jean Todt's power-unit era a behemoth failure, as of this writing, F1 is doing no manufacturer any good, whatsoever.
Indicative of the IRL, F1 is now an embarrassment. Neither competition, nor entertainment, nor sport, why stay? Most everyone having lost their enthusiasm for F1 two years ago, Honda and Renault would be wise considering pulling out of F1, altogether.
The guy who created this mess, F1's number 1 problem is, Jean Todt.
Principle damage from Jean Todt's power unit era is centered, squarely upon Britain's cottage industries, which have survived pretty much intact several hundred years, from the hearth of mankind's proto-industrialization. Should F1 collapse, that is 70 thousand high powered money jobs in the UK, poof-gone. Forever. Once gone, those jobs never come back. Once gone, the dominoes start to fall... those jobs support another 250 thousand other jobs.
You can begin to see where this engine thing is going; just how dire the economic consequence is. Cross your fingers Bernie gets this thing back under control. Posthaste - Samuel, AW11 4agze.

I think McLaren would be happy for Honda to supply Red Bull with an engine. They could have the 2015 one.biglaugh
Red Bull decide they do not want their contracted engine for 2016 and demand that they want a Merc or Ferrari engine or they will quit the sport.Merc did the right thing and Red Bull know that Ferrari will muck them about with the engine as they did when they supplied Toro Rosso.Message for Christian Horner - Bye bye.
Red Bull were talking about selling the team to VW for 500 million Euros but ehat will not happen now.If Red Bull and Toro Rosso pull out of F1 they will lose both teams as an asset valued at 750 million Euros if they could find a buyer, make over 1000 people redundant and pay a massive fine or return of the payments as they guaranteed to be in F1 until 2020.
They will not do WEC as they will want the Porsche engine but will not get it.

They won't run LMP2 as they can't build their own chassis. You don't need the kind of team numbers they have to run an LMP2 team. All I know is they are trying to look at other projects as DM doesn't want to put 700+ people out of work and lose all that tech knowledge.
I don't think they will leave. I think they will get a Ferrari A unit for 2016/2017 and then get a Honda unit if they are competitive by then. The fact that reports state DM is bored of F1 should be a worry though.
