Finally McLaren have signed a new sponsor - Chandon, part of the MoetHennessey group.

The quotes from the respective CEOs elevate PR-BS to dizzy new heights.

Sadly it's the only way they're likely to lay their hands on champagne next year.

Has it made up for the deficit of losing JW and Santander do you know?

I don't know, I'm afraid - the press release didn't say. Just a lot of PR guff - http://www.mclaren.com/formula1/inside-the-mtc/cha...

From an industry point of view, it is a cheap deal as McLaren are having real issues from a positive PR position. Not sure how it fits within F1 but if they can change brands according to locations it is a good bit of business. Doesn't bring in any real money to McLaren.

I think it's a smart deal. Look beyond Chandon at LVMH particularly and the opportunity to brand the car according to the geographical location is perfect, as you say.

Vuitton in Japan, China and ME for example? Even if its value to McLaren is just 'halo' it has to be positive in terms of their attracting other blue chip sponsors. And the Japaense will love it!

Isn't it Mumm they spray on the podium? How will that work if/when McL ever make it back up there again, can't see Chandon being too pleased?

Cheaper wine for their hospitality is all this deal is worth.

Does this really constitute a new sponsor, as I thought LVMH was owned/ part-owned by Diaego? confused

The new logo replaces Johnnie Walker on the car, so maybe not new money

Santander still pay money to Mclaren in part. They have a deal with Mclaren Applied Technologies to help them with speedier mortgage applications. After MAT did the Heathrow NATS improved efficiency work they did something similar for Santander, hence why you saw JB still on some advertising. I believe they are still working with them now on this project.

Rumour has it RD turned down US$43m from Johnnie Walker for title sponsorship. But AFAIK this is not a like for like replacement for the current Johnnie Walker deal.

But I read here that McLaren were never going to get a new sponsor because Ron is useless and then they were going bankrupt in a massive spiral of doom.
