A £5 billion hole in VW cash pot. Looks like it might be bad news for Formula 1, Red Bull and every PH'er who held the tiniest hope of seeing Porsche get the F1 team and take it Ferrari. (No diesel F1 engines, leave Audi in Le Mans racing.) If Dr Piech is able to re-join the board then for sure F1 aspirations are dead.

If it was needed two weeks ago, then its needed even more now.

It was never just a charity contribution for VAG to help "Support" motor racing.

I've read the situation completely differently.
After this fiasco, VAG will need a global platform to restore peoples faith in the company, so IMO the chances of them coming to F1 have increased drastically. Maybe they'll drop out of other motorsports to support it, the only difference now is that perhaps the engine will be badged as a VW rather than Audi.

This is my take on it too. VW would of known about this ages ago so took action to sign something off before the st hit the fan.

We will have to see.

Hmmmmnnnnnnn.......interesting theory.

Maybe they will do a badge swop? Audi drop out of WEC, and return to it's rallying roots, by rebranding the VW WRC team as an Audi, using the A1 instead of the Polo, and bring VW name into F1?

I still think it's more likely though that VAG will stay out of F1.

From a brand repairing exercise perhaps a VW F1 team will clean the image more quickly. But from the stance of winning in F1 surely the logical choice is Porsche. The have proven race success using hybrid tech. Thoughts?
