I'm not going this year, but definitely am next. If anyone is going this year and can bring back any tips or advice that will help me out for next year I'd be really grateful.

Never been to Singapore before and due to work commitments and family, it's likely I will only be going for a long weekend (maybe 5 days) so I'll need to be somewhere central as I don't want to have to travel any more than I need to.

Thanks anyone!

Good choice! Have been to lots of different f1 races and singapore is the best overall package IMHO. Fantastic night race, friendly fun locals, no camping (sorry to those who like tenting !) excellent free nightly entertainment in a massive stage area after the sessions, easy access with a lot of hotels within walking distance. Very efficiently run and in 30 degree heat almost 100% guaranteed. The whole place goes into party mode for the weekend. Lots of entertainment between sessions.

Ok, so there is not the best actual overtaking opportunities and you need grandstand access to get a great view. But you get really close to the cars in some areas and the whole spectical makes up for this..... General access tickets are available, but the viewing points for these are busy with limited viewing time for the cars......Singapore offer combination tickets with 3 different grandstands Over the 3 days, definitely the best option.

Tickets - the web interface is poor, simply wait for tickets to go on sale, then phone the international number on singaporegp.sg. You can then discuss row/seat preferences (there is a great interactive map on the same site giving row/seat layouts for all grandstands). We have front row pit grandstand seats opposite the podium for this years race...have used most of the grandstands including start line, Stamford, bay, pedang etc....so pm if you want recommendations.

Travel - we have used the same approach most years, Thursday evening flight from UK, lands 2 hours before fp1 which is plenty of time to get to hotel and into circuit to start party, stay through Monday, then off to somewhere else in Asia for more fun. Singapore is a great place, but have been lots of times for work previously. Hotels - lots of places within walking distance of the circuit.

Inside tips, cheaper rooms in the hotels near (or in) the circuit work well. They have city views so you cannot see the circuit, but who cares if you have race tickets. Boat and Clarke quay are main tourist areas and walkable from the circuit , they tend to have the best advance rates, but rooms are available right up to the race. the metro connects lots of parts of the circuit and means that staying further out is a better proposition than at other circuits like spa etc. Stay on UK time, the park opens mid afternoon and racing goes on till late, nothing happens until after lunch, so sleeping in and partying late works perfect.

Social - singaporegp really use facesslap and Twitter a lot...we have free singapore flyer and pit walk tickets from thier competitions this year...

Drop me a pm if you have specific questions...

Oh and the best point is that some thieving git will not Knick my spare wheel like some tw@ did at silverstone this year!

I'm going, but gutted to see no historic F1 this year. It's a good job there's some entertainment because the support racing this year looks awful.

Next year the Singapore and Malaysian race will be one week apart, as they want to get more Europeans to travel out, and hope this can be achieved by tying in a week on the beach, so plan your trip carefully to get best value.
Yesterdays racing at Sepang was stopped because of the haze from the fires in Indonesia, the current haze situation is as bad as it has been for some years and may impact the Sing race on Sunday.

Great tips above!

I'll be going this year as usual and staying with my cousin. The haze is a big factor at the moment and not sure what's going to happen. Indonesia is up to its usual tricks of burning the jungles of Sumatra to the west of Singapore which is blowing across the sea into Malaysia and Singapore. It's so bad that even the Aussie chartered fire bombing aircraft in Sumatra can't get airborne to tackle the fires due to the lack of visibility. There has be tension for years between Singapore/Malaysia and Indonesia about the later's rampant disregard for its neighbours and if the F1 is cancelled who knows what will happen.

Watch this space...

The Haze is bad today In Malaysia PMI index yesterday in some areas was 1000, unhealthy is 200, it was bad enough that I didn't go outside yesterday and it was a bank holiday, I'd recommend bringing a good quality face mask, my company has issued all staff with painting/DIY type face masks, I think these are better than the surgical masks you can buy in the 7-11's and I'd recommend you to bring some with you as they can be difficult to find in the city center shops.
The haze is caused by burning oil palm not forest, 62% is the result of small holders and 38% comes form corporate operations. at least that the latest published staistics

Haze is getting better in singapore. Readings below 100 today.

According to my taxi driver from the airport last night, it's supposed to stay like this or better over the weekend.

I think our two post summertime the problem 200 miles apart and two different experiences today, anything can happen over the weekend, I do agree it will need to be bad to cause any cancellation, worst/best outcome may be a need to seed the clouds to get it to rain, they did that yesterday in Malaysia, be interesting then to have wet race, apparently seeding flights cost around 30,000US$ each so peanuts to the F1
