Makes sense....but its fugly
When did Cotton ever talk senseI actually complained about her comments on a radio programme. I was in my car, listening to whichever channel she's on, and there was an interview with a chap and she just shouted him down. I disagreed with the chap - I'd read his comments - but he had a point of view and could justify it, at least to himself.
She invited him on her programme and would not let him speak. She asked questions and then answered them for him. My wife asked me how she could get away with it and I said 'cause no one complains. She gave me one of her looks.
I complained, listing three main points, and then listing another additional couple of bits.
I received a letter from the BBC which was justification, at some length, of points I hadn't raised and did not address any of the things I had.
So I was wrong: the reason she gets away with it is because the programme controllers want her on.
Apologies for my confusion here.
Are they trying to make cars go faster or is it important to ensure that any design cannot be mocked in any way?
If they thought that nailing a cabbage patch doll on the rear wing was faster and within the rules, I can assure you, they would do it.
Why wouldnt they?

Herein lies the issues with the current regulations, the cars are so reliant on aerodynamics and so optimized that they are having to try new ugly solutions to generate downforce. I cant imagine many teenagers have current F1 cars on their walls, gone are the days of F1 cars being elegant pieces of design. Are they trying to make cars go faster or is it important to ensure that any design cannot be mocked in any way?

The teams aren't wrong to be doing it its sport after all. They wont overtake a top team by copying their developments 6 months behind so need to do something different. Issue for me is they do gain success with ugly solutions then the big teams will very quickly create their own ugly variants.
Mclaren are the ones currently doing things differently, trying to really change how the car is packaged and its a very elegant solution, hopefully they will get it sorted and everyone else will have to try and follow suit.
