Does Alonso have a get out clause?
Discussion
First outward sign of Alonso's frustration at the weekend.
There is talk on another thread of what (If any) options McLaren have in leaving Honda, and I realise that we are only 7 races in, but presumably when McLaren was sold to Alonso, they have talked up their performance I suspect, would Alonso have had a "get out" clause, do we think he would be likely to exercise it, and if he did, where would he go?

Here's a Sky article showing who is where in the upcoming years.

Could replace Kvyat I suppose. Doesn't seem like he's impressed this year.
Maybe back to Ferrari if Kimi doesn't take the option for 2016.
Can't imagine any of the other teams could afford his salary TBH.

Alonso has a performance clause with his right to terminate if they have less than X-championship points at Y-point on the calender, but I don't know the values of X or Y.There is talk on another thread of what (If any) options McLaren have in leaving Honda, and I realise that we are only 7 races in, but presumably when McLaren was sold to Alonso, they have talked up their performance I suspect, would Alonso have had a "get out" clause, do we think he would be likely to exercise it, and if he did, where would he go?
I think he'll sign with Audi, be it WEC or F1.

Just as relevant. Do McLaren have a get out clause with Honda?
I mentioned that was running in another post.Wouldn't be surprised to see Alonso leave F1 at the end of the year. Ditto for Raikkonen and maybe even Button.
Then again I wouldn't be surprised if the 'silly season' never really happens this year and all the key players keep their current line ups. Could make a good case for either way really.
Can't see Alonso having the patience to put up with this for much longer though..... I know all his public comments are positive but does he really have the heart to spend the next 2-3 years trying to build up the team in the hope he is competitive come 2018 or whatever?
edit:
can't see where Alonso could go so if he does leave Mclaren it has to be out of F1 for good surely? Ferrari wont want him, Redbull look uncompetitive, Merc don't appear to have room. Williams I suppose is an option but don't appear likely to win anything as Merc customer cars.

Haas is 'Ferrari America' - their 2016 car will be built from Ferrari 2015 blueprints with a current PU & gearbox.
hmm.... .not sure that is a good thing is it? Being a Ferrari customer car effectively having hand-me-down Ferrari technology..... yeah that sounds like a recipe for success. Like Alonso said after the Canadian race, he's spent the last five years finishing mostly around 3rd/4th/5th place in races. If you're not in a Mercedes and you want to beat Mercedes then you have to do something radical and different. If he was still at Ferrari this year he'd still be looking at mostly 3rd/4th/5th places.
If he wants to win and can't get into the Mercedes team in the next couple of years then he really doesn't have any other options for another WDC title. As unlikely as it might seem on current form, McLaren Honda probably have as much chance as Ferrari at turning their car into a regular race winner. What other teams out there have that potential? What other teams have the resources to develop at that level and pay him the $$$?

Alonso has nowhere else to go, he either stays where he is and hopes things improve this year for next; from what I can gather, this year was always going to be hard and not a great deal was to be expected, or he retires.
Regarding a comment about no one else can afford him, well the standard of young drivers out there is very good and I don't actually think he is able to command the sort of money anymore that some people think he can or could.

I doubt it is about the money, Alonso must already be loaded. I'm sure he would drive that Mercedes for free. Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
