Hi all

Sorry if this is the wrong thread but I have friend who is thinking about creating an F1 sim and has all the controls other than a shell to house them in.

Any ideas where he can find something resembling one

Many thanks

Imo best bet is to make one in fibreglass or similar. Any genuine f1 bit will be mega money, and even if you go e.g f3, the cocpit shape is just different.

You just missed out on buying the mould for the old Caterham F1 cockpit. You could have made life of them smile

Follow Maldonado around, granted it would be like one of those magazine subscription kits but you will get a shell sooner or later

Lotus simulator cockpit, used, some scratches and repairs, £999 on eBay. It does say the Lotus graphics have been removed now though. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171810229737

So we're down from £88k for the Sauber to £999, what's the next step down? smile

My employer has two 'dummy' cars hanging from the roof where I work, they are 'real' cars in that they were made by/for the team, but they are fiber glass and no running gear. A friend of mine hang them up and they were insured for 20,000 pounds each during the lift, major issue he had to provide deatailes of the policy he took out before proceeding, I understand fro questions asked that the 20k is actually a realistic valuation of what was spent to build the cars.

It might be worth getting in touch with a team who run historic F1 or BOSS cars. I worked for one many years ago who had a couple of old 70s F1 cars lying around and actually had the moulds to make new panels, as these things always get cracked somehow.

You can buy an F1 Show Car - just a plastic full size model really for about £15k or so.. Not sure what budget you were thinking of, but there are a few out there.

I'm not entirely sure of his budget but know he will have one eventually to go with his full size 737-800 sim and he hoping to build a fighter jet one too smile

He already got all the controls and software for the car sim he just wants to build it into a shell to make it more fun

Full cars do come up a bit cheaper than that Sauber show car. A Castle Combe regular bought one of the Honda Earth Cars for £37k minus engine and steering wheel.

Would this work for you?

No association with the company myself, but a body kit is about £2.5k.
