Just been watching this and it's a really interesting insight into Ferrari and Schumacher...worth watching if you can get hold of it.

I read somewhere that he is the second richest ex F1 driver after Scumacher and put all his money in property and has something like 100 houses worldwide and also bought an Island somewhere.

Definately not a F1 legend.

He's definitely living the high life.

Honestly if you can find it its worth a watch.

A really refreshing view of those days and I assume a fairly honest account.

Ryder looked very uncomfortable throughout this, especially when Irvine started slapping the table to emphasise a point biggrin He was very honest about Schumacher being superior at least, unlike Rubens, who irvine didnt seem to like.

Bit of a bellend and by no means an F1 legend but fair play to him for his success.

Wasn't he monstrously over paid by Jaguar?

I remember a story about the head of Ford, as they were trying to balance their books, looking down a list of the highest paid people at the company, and starting at the top he says "So who is this Ed Irvine?"

Got a couple of podiums for them though - better than anyone else could manage.

Always liked Irvine. He seemed to be a bit of a James Hunt type maverick racer.

He should have taken the F1 title the year that Schumacher had his accident at Silverstone - cant remember whether it was 98 or 99 - if only Ferrari had given him the support he needed rather than wait for Schumacher to take Ferrari's first title for many years.

However I don't think Irvine was all that bothered. After all he was getting paid shed loads of money to drive for Ferrari.

Probably not a legend in the true sense of the word however he certainly doesn't serve some of the negative comments on this thread.

IMO.

He talks about that and he says he agrees with Jean Todt and the decision to focus on next years car.

His views on Schumacher are very interesting. Basically saying he was a horrible testing and development driver...he was just that good at driving it didn't rely matter.

It was '99. Irvine only lost out on the championship by two points. Makes you wonder what might have been had he not been suffering team orders until Schumacher broke his leg.

Does the worst thing in the history of human speech.

Ends every sentence in a higher tone than he starts it so it's as if he's asking a very pretentious question every time he speaks.

Cock.

I heard a story from an Irish guy who was master of a vessel I was working on, he lived close to where Irvine had a house in Ireland.

Apparently Irvine heard about an old guy in a nursing home nearby who was a big Ferrari fan and went to visit him in the home, he found out the old chap had a hospital appointment. He arranged with the home that he would pick the guy up and take him to the hospital, he turned up in a Ferrari and drove the guy to his appointment. He also gave the guy a race suit and other memorabilia.

Legend and IMO good guy.

Always admired him for having the audacity to unlap himself. Sort of thing Senna would've done.
