Marrussia to beat Mclaren
Discussion
Now i know you may think I'm mad here but hear me out...
Marrussia haven't turned a wheel but when they do the engine should be reliable but down on power to merc, it may however make more than the Honda unit in current trim. If Renault powered teams,lotus/force india continue to flounder and Honda dont step up the game quickly they could score points with this engine piurely for finishing. Once they have the new Ferrari engine they could possibly gain a lot of performance like Sauber and actually fight for points on merit.
thoughts?

They have almost no chance, other than through possible reliability, with their current car. It's a 2014 chassis bodged to meet the 2015 rules with a 2014-spec Ferrari PU, so it won't be going quicker than it did last year. Last year's Marussia was generally at least 4 seconds off the pace of the Mercedes, and the field this year appears to be at least 2 seconds faster than it was last year.
I would hope and expect that McHonda will develop quickly, while Manor, even if/when they get a true 2015-spec car together will more than likely still be at the back of the field.

It's a long season and Honda and mclaren have a lot of money and can develop the engine a lot over the year. They may be nowhere for the first half but expect them to score some points in the second half.
Isn't it about tokens? They can't change too much can they?Agent Orange said:
Isn't it more likely that McLaren become the Honda B Team with Red Bull the Honda A team? Given all the noise from RB regarding the Renault engine.
Mclaren/Honda's problem is the power unit which would be the same problem for Red Bull if they go with Honda. We don't know how quick the car is yet so it could be quicker than the Red Bull....that is of course if you base 'A' vs 'B' Team precedence on performance.sirtyro said:

My understanding is it's about tokens, but Honda's quota of tokens is somehow linked to the other manufacturers' use of tokens - ie Honda know what they can do once the existing clique have decided what they are doing - so another F1 lashup designed to shaft someone...

I think Honda might go with someone that Mclaren was in a technical partnership with. Should they risk entering a new agreement with Manor (cash up front please) then they might supply the engines. It must be in their business model to supply more teams and get some sort of a return other than future road going technology (although my honest opinion is that WEC provides better technology in this area).Realistically, do you think Honda will, after all the hoopla about getting back with McLaren, deal with the loss of face of backing a different horse?

Tokens, yes, but the manufacturers are allowed a lot more leeway in respect of improvements for "reliability". Take from that what you will but I expect that Honda will bring a heavily revised motor (or at least one capable of running at full power) by the European season.
