Sebastian Vettel
Discussion
A visibly rejuvinated Vettel putting his new Ferrari onto the podium first time of asking, while the Red Bulls languish. It's looking like an inspired move, akin to Hamilton's in '12/13.
I wonder how this'll develop over the season with Renault progressively spending their tokens.
It'll also be interesting to see if Ferrari can keep Williams at bay when they're back in full force with Bottas, who arguably whould've had that podium spot today had he competed.
Yes I realise we have the 'Kimi vs Seb' thread, looking at the bigger picture here

Damn, I read this before having watched the race. I should have anticipated the possibility of spoilers.
Erm... Yes? Spoilers are frustrating and I can relate, but visiting the F1 forum post race before you have watched it perhaps not the best idea.Vettel is probably the third best driver behind Hamilton and Alonso and did a good job today, nice to see him on the podiun in his first race.
Williams has the slightly better car than Ferrari but they dont seam to give good calls from the pit lane so I think it will be a very close battle for second in the championship.
The development of the engines will probably say the same this year in terms of performance as I guess they have a similar amount of tokens so it will be Mercedes,Ferrari,Renault with Honda possibly overtaking Renault about two third way through the season.
I dont think that Vettel will win another world drivers championship and if Honda get their act together I can see Red Bull using Honda engines in 2016.

Looking at Kimi and Seb's lap times on F1 Fanatic it's amazing how consistent Seb is and there doesn't seem to be much between them, Kimi was actually going faster for much of the time between laps 18 and 39.
I really hope Ferrari take a leaf out of Mercedes' book and let them race if they are together on track, but I doubt they will.

Call me cynical, but as much as I'm pleased for the resurgence of Vettel it does lead me to question how much of Riccardo beating him last year was down to Vettel having mentally left the team early on in the season.
I've always been of the view that Vettel was the best driver for a particular era of F1. Now that era is history he's struggling. Well he proved me wrong in spades with this race. Maybe he'll never reach the heights he did with blown floors but he looked pretty handy on Sunday.
Prior to the race I thought Bottas best placed to battle with the Mercs. It still might be but Vettel is looking like he's back and likely to have an impact on the WDC.

As I said earlier though, for much of the race before he retired Kimi was lapping faster, if less consistently. I think Seb is a good driver but not an exceptional one (unless you give him a blown diffuser, then he's in a class of one) and I think Kimi can match him this season if he can be bothered to care enough to. It remains to be seen though, I could be very wrong. Either way, it looks like the Ferrari is a good 'un this year, poor Alonso!
