I'm taking my wife to Barcelona for our wedding anniversary, and oh whoops it seems to coincide with the next F1 test weekend.

It is pretty easy to get to/from Barcelona to the circuit if we wanted to pop there for an hour or so?

Just make sure the taxi meter is running as they are the worst for overcharging in my experience in Europe.

Ok, thanks. What about getting back to the city? Will there be taxis waiting at the circuit or will we be stuck there?

Get the train, it's short walk to the track.

I've found the French much worse, never had an issue in BCN

It's 30 minutes by train from Barcelona Sants to Montmelo. Try and get a taxi from Momtmelo or it's a 30 minute walk to the circuit. Ask the taxi driver for a business card and give him a bell when you're ready to leave otherwise you may have to walk back to the station.

Is renting a car completely out of the question? With a Ryanair flight reference we've booked something Leon sized for 8 quid for 3 days for the final test, then around 8 Euros per day for Super CDW once we arrive. Made sure there's a free parking space at our apartment too.

Cars are normally very cheap off season, campervans too, but take care with those, they seem to be made from cardboard and tin foil.

Driving to the circuit for test days is a great way of doing it. The taxi would cost you more than the days car rental anyway and due to the system here where taxi licence holders are allowed to rent their cabs on again, almost all taxi drivers don't know their way around and are desperate to rip you off with a circuitous route.

Parking where you are staying is VIP, otherwise it gets expensive.

Take care to avoid the tourist traps for eating and be aware that looking drunk or lost will attract thieves. The car robbers, punctured tyre trick, is not really a problem ark the city.
