Singapore GP PLaces to Watch
Discussion
Hi All,
looking at going to the Singapore GP this year and have two options of tickets to get, the general admission one is £120'ish and in Zone 4, I can't seem to find where zone 4 is (what corners) and where we can we can walk around to/from?
The other option is for the Bay Grandstand between 17 and 18 (where the cars come under the stand) and is £145'ish, but a bit concerned this will have limited viewing?
Anyone been that can offer some advice please?

See here for the pdf of last years map showing zones etc: http://www.singaporegp.sg/assets/circuit_park_map....
Zone four in 2014 was the one in green on the left side of the map.
There are various raised areas near to the track that are reserved for general admission ticket holders, but it looked like people were getting there early to try and reserve their places.
The bay grandstand looks spectacular as it looks out over the Singapore skyline, but for racing action it's not that great as the cars don't get a lot of speed up along that straight (compared to other parts of the circuit). I was there on Friday for practice so it may have been different on race day.
I went last year (and planning to go again this year) and I got a combo ticket which was expensive but I had seats in the bay grandstand on Friday, turn 1 grandstand on Saturday and Padang on Sunday. I am planning on doing something similar this year.

I would make sure you have a grandstand ticket. The zone 4 walkabout tickets only have a few raised areas on a few corners and get really busy, plus the view isn't great, I'd imagine it's highly frustrating if you're actually interested in the race. A bonus of the grandstands is they have a big screen and commentary so you can keep up with what's going on around the circuit. I was in the Padang grandstand last year and it was great.
I think that there are multiple Holiday Inn Expresses in Singapore, which one were you thinking of?
The Nostalgia Hotel is in a good locally area with good eating options nearby, I've not stayed at the hotel but I've been there for a drink. It's between Tiong Bahru and Outram Park train stations (about ten minutes walk to each), which are only a few stops from Raffles Place or City Hall station where you need to go for the F1.

The Holiday Inn we were looking at is the one on Magazine Road? Just south of the river, I think it's a fairly new building based on what's shown on Google Streetview.
We've read good reviews about the Nostalgia hotel, but the rooms look tiny and some of them don't even have a window. I know we won't be spending much time in the hotel room over the week we're there, but still, I'd like the hotel to at least have a window. We generally use Holiday Inn expresses whenever we go away, you know what you're going to get after all. With the Nostalgia, I fancied a change which is why we looked at some others. We've booked both flexibly and will be deciding soon on which to keep and which to cancel.
Thanks very much for the info and help, it's very much appreciated.

Magazine Street is another good location, close to the river with the bars and also close to Chinatown and the city. Probably the best bet for getting to and from the F1 from the hotel is to walk alongside the river, it'll take maybe half an hour - but bear in mind it's very hot and humid in Singapore (not sure if you've been before) so it gets quite sweaty walking. Taxis are cheap compared to the UK when you can get one but I believe it can be difficult to get them during the F1 - I just used the train last year and it was fine.
Singapore's pretty small and easy to get around the rest of the time that you're there.

Haven't been to the GP in Singapore but I have been on holiday there, my top tip would be do your drinking outside of the hotels, it's way cheaper, I mean a lot cheaper.
By "outside of the hotels" I mean go to a bar, not slump outside of the hotel necking a can of Special Brew.
I you have time while you're there Sentosa Island is well worth a visit.

Yes, I've lived in Singapore for the past year, so I'm no expert but happy to offer advice.
The F1 has been one of the highlights so far, it's a great weekend. Even my other half who isn't interested in cars or racing really enjoyed the three day pass last year.
The bars are expensive for alcohol here but quite often they have "happy hour" with various deals on which can work out well. Beware that a lot of the prices for alcohol advertised on boards doesn't include GST and service, which adds up to an extra 17%. Another option is drinking in the hawker centres or "coffee shops" with the locals which is fun and much cheaper than bars. They only tend to have fans and no air con though, so it can get pretty warm.
Feel free to PM me if you need any more tips about Singapore.
