Spa - Parking and getting in/out of the circuit
Discussion
I am considering a trip to Spa this year and plan to fly to Amsterdam, hire a car and drive down.
All the hotels close to the circuit are full so I am looking at an hours drive (in normal conditions) from a hotel north of Liege.
My question is - Is it worth driving to/from the circuit or is public transport better ? Using public transport would mean driving into Liege and finding a place to park all day which in itself might be a problem.
My preference would be to book parking at the circuit an driving in but can anyone guess how long it would take to get in/out ?
I am sure this has been asked before but a search only brought up driving routes.

When we went a few years ago, parking wasn't much of a problem. On the Saturday, we were able to park in the village next to the circuit. The local residents sell spaces in their gardens/drives, and officials direct you into parking in the campsites. It was about a 5 minute walk to the main entrance. I think the charge was about 10 euros.
On the Sunday it was busier. Our friends who got there about 11am were able to park in the village again. But when we got there about 45 minutes later, we were directed to a field about 15 minutes drive from the village. We were then bused in. It seemed a long way away, but we both got back to our house rental about the same time afterwards because there wasn't any traffic to get out of the out-of-town parking.

I went many years ago, and parked in a field on a hill. Was OK getting in. Getting out became a challenge as it had rained (no surprise there) and the field was now wet. The gate was at the bottom. Cue hundreds of cars sliding down the hill and desperately getting through the gate at the bottom like a cork out a champagne bottle before getting hit by another sliding car!
The traffic management system was good, and all roads made one way from the circuit so dual lane traffic out.

If you are in no great rush to get out on Sunday night definitely take a car, public transport will be time consuming & frustrating.
Any particular reason to fly to Amsterdam ? Charleroi & even Brussels Zaventem are closer (even Eindhoven or Frankfurt Hahn in fact ) I only ask, as the drive down from AMS will be a traffic fest, at least it has been on the occasions I have been forced to do it.
At this stage, I would think you will find accommodation closer by, for sure it will take a bit of time on the internet, but time well spent, North of Liege is a bit of a hike.

I live near Aberdeen so plentiful flights to AMS, also my son lives in Arnhem (1-1/4hr on the train from Schiphol) so the plan would be for him to meet me at the airport. To fly to Brussels would mean flying from Edinburgh so what I save driving one end I lose the other, but it has been considered, thanks for the advice though. At this stage, I would think you will find accommodation closer by, for sure it will take a bit of time on the internet, but time well spent, North of Liege is a bit of a hike.
