I have been to the British and Belgium Grand Prix several times so this year decided to take my son to the German Grand Prix.

I have booked with Leger travel as I have used them before. The trip is £419 each and includes 3 nights in a hotel with breakfast, transfer to the race circuit and entry tickets for Saturday and Sunday, travel by executive coach so basically the same as the Belgium race we went to and had a great time.

My question is the tickets for the Sunday are general admission so would we be able to get a good viewing spot for the race or would it be best to update to grandstand tickets and if so where would you recommend.

Any other information in general about the German Grand Prix.

I did a road trip in 2011, general ramblings here - http://fastgerman.com/forum/german-grand-prix-2011...

Grandstand is definitely worth it as the standard seating is motorway concrete blocks.

There are strange cards you have to buy before you can purchase food and drink also.

The above said, it is a fantastic F1 venue and an immense atmosphere. You'll love it!

I seem to remember going to the German grand prix some years ago (Jenson was still in a BAR so quite a while ago) by coach. I can't help with your specific question but my abiding memories of the trip were it seems one heck of a long way at 100kph(62MPH) the maximum speed a coach can travel at due to the speed limiter on the vehicle. This was also supposed to be an 'executive' coach but the only additions were a toilet, a paid for drinks machine and a video player so you may need to take entertainment and some sort of pillow if you're going overnight as we did. Also we stopped at services for breakfast only to find them closed as it was so early.

Parking at the 'ring, which is where I believe the 2015 race is was quite a way from the circuit so you may be walking a bit to get to the track. Sorry can't remember how far it was but it seemed quite a way. The coaches were parked out on the straight of the old circuit, although that may only have been on race day.

We did 2013 for my stag do & it was great. General admission tickets were brilliant for the money they cost us but we went with the following in mind.....

The ring can be a cold, wet & miserable place even in summer! We got lucky as it was scorching but we were staying very close to the circuit so if we got wet it wouldn't be for long.

The local roads around the nurburgring can't cope with the traffic so you want to be there early, even on busy public days such as Easter the place gets snared up so prepare to walk a fair distance if you're bussing in or have a long wait or early start.

The one benefit of nüro-Disney that's been built recently means there is loads to do and see (& drink) all within easy access of the track.

Uk to nurburg by bus is a long slog. Local b&b's are plentiful and cheap-personally I'd make my own way, stay close by and save lots.

Prices we paid;
General admission Fri Sat Sun €89
Local b&b (friends place-guesthouse fuchschroe) €65 per person night
Hull to Rotterdam overnight for 14 (2 per cabin) with return Calais to Dover taking a minibus on board £120 each
Fuel wasn't much but I can't remember exactly

So we went out on the Thursday night ferry, went to Friday practice, qually and race, stayed within a half hour walk of the track (though Michaela who runs the place has a minibus herself to drop us off) in comfortable surroundings and had a whale of a time for very little money.

If you're driving yourself it's so much quicker to get there, 4 and a half hours from Calais if you're from down south, 3 hours from Rotterdam if you're coming from up north.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

I did think about driving and booking hotels etc but to be quite honest when we went to Spa it was nice to leave the car at home, the coach was fine and very comfortable, had quite a few stops for food, drink and use the toilet and Spa although quite a way was not a problem and I think that the German circuit is not that much further and will take plenty to keep us occupied on the coach. The only downside was we had to come off the motorway four or five times to pick up and drop off other people between Cardiff and the M25.

We will not be travelling overnight on the coach as its a four day trip staying three nights in a hotel leaving the hotel in Germany on the Monday morning and one of the reasons we chose it over Monaco and the Spanish races as they were 5 days but only three nights in a hotel so we would leave the circuit after the race and travel through the night back to the UK.

I am sure we will have a great time.
