If you could drive for any team...
Discussion
... who would it be and why?
Imagine that you're one of the best drivers on the grid, and all of the team principles are chasing your signature. Try and set aside the obvious "whoever has the fastest car" answer, because hypothetically there are major rule changes for 2015 and nobody knows who will come out on top.
Do you follow your heart and try to join the list of legends at Ferrari?
Do you sign for a team who go racing for the love of it, like Williams?
Maybe you want to sign for Mercedes, because of the strong management structure and unlimited resources?
Or perhaps you'd prefer the more laid-back and fun approach of a team like Red Bull?
Over the last two years, we've seen Lewis, Alonso, Vettel and Raikkonen all choose to swap teams, and all of them for different reasons. So what would be important for you?

2014s not been their year, but I always thought that Red Bull would be a good team to drive for. They seem pretty laid back, the motorhome looks the most fun, plus with all the extreme sports they're involved in it seems like an awesome brand to represent, so corporate days would be pretty exciting.
There's obviously the allure of Ferrari, but I think I'd be put off by all of the bhing and the internal politics. And while driving for McLaren would be something of a childhood dream come true, I think I'd find the number of sponsorship demands and squeaky-clean image a little bit stifling. And they've been a bit of a mess for the last few years.

But massively outweighed by having to be associated with Christian Horner - I'd rather poke red hot needles in my own eyes As much as I'd like to be winning all the time I think I'd like being in one of the more successful 'underdog' teams instead. Escape just a little of the attention that the really big teams get. Somewhere to learn my craft and find my voice as a driver in terms of feedback and development. Also to hopefully enjoy the reknown that Alonso does for putting in great performances in a car which isn't the best, and use it as a shop window which'll then get me snapped up by the massive budget teams.
Williams seem very popular so far so the market for their drivers is going to be highly competetive, already rumoured to be in advanced talks with Chris Harrison Dan Wainwright and Charles Cole, with the further possibilities of Vaud and Blayney who are weighing up their options between Williams and Mercedes.
Stay out of that bear pit then.
So I'm going to stick my neck out and say Lotus. They've done pretty well in the last few years, 2014 excepted... race win in 2012 and 2013, beating the dominant Red Bulls both times. All-new car and Mercedes engines from next year. I can't imagine their chassis and aero have suddenly gone to pot so with a decent engine and an excellent driver in the form of yours truly, Lotus and I could get back to getting Black & Gold on the podium.
Also it's the best livery, and black is slimming. And they seem like a fun and accomodating team to deal with.
Oh and also there's obviously the prestige that comes with the name and the history.

1. Williams - the spirit of racing runs through their veins.
2. Mercedes - Toto and Niki would be great to work with, and fantastic resources and hopefully long term visiion.
Last Ferrari in reality, as I think the politics could be a huge distraction from the pleasure of driving for a team with such pedigree.
Reality of course is I wouldn't say no to any of them. Just as relevant reality is I will never get asked so I wouldn't even have the chance to say no...
