Vettel considered leaving F1...
Discussion
Apparently; he didn't like the lack of noise (fair enough) and the fact that the cars are slower (despite more torque and less aero making them more of a beast to drive...)
Great driver; top bloke; can't help but feel that this new era will never gel with him. And that is perhaps what got his cogs ticking...

agreed.
The mark of a true great is someone that can keep it together when things are against them.
I've heard nothing other than moaning like a spoilt bh this year.
yes he is better than the 'haters' give him credit for (me included) but he is not a rounded driver, he is very sensitive to bad things - a bit like Jenson.

I'm with you on the JB comparison, next year will be telling although i said the same about this year and TBH he hasn't looked that special but then we don't know the full story, he really might have just inherated Webers bad luck? The mark of a true great is someone that can keep it together when things are against them.

I'm almost sure the BBC said that at Brazil the cars were beating the qualifying record set there but were still off the ultimate lap that was set by Barrachelo during a free practice at some point. It must be but into context that this is only the first year of these cars what will they be like at the end of next year?

Indeed; these cars may well end up being faster on a regular basis.S0 What said:

I think you need to wait a couple of years, as next year the car might be poor still, but a couple of years to allow time to get the car "right" and then see if he is fighting at the front.confucuis said:

I think they said that times were faster than last year's qualifying times which were set in the wet. The Barrichello time was from some years previous.Going by the actual quotes I think he has a valid point, but then again I felt that Horner did too when he was talking about the engine costs and possibly going back to V8s. Problem is anything that comes from Vettel or Horner is automatically dismissed as them "throwing toys out of their pram".
For me F1 has lost something with these rule changes and despite a great battle between Nico and Lewis I still wouldn't count this year as a great success for the sport. I think the lack of noise, the cars becoming lardy and way more technically complex is part of the reason.

Lardy cars?? The cars have more torque, less aero; how can these be bad things?? These cars are harder to drive and the drivers right foot now has a lot more responsibility... talk about technology all you want; but these cars are more difficult to drive; by all accounts. And that's a good thing IMO.For me F1 has lost something with these rule changes and despite a great battle between Nico and Lewis I still wouldn't count this year as a great success for the sport. Oddly I like the engine noise, we can hear the tyres squealing away etc..
And this season has been fairly exciting to me, quite a few races with awesome scraps all through the field.
I got to agree. At the start of the season I thought WTF about the noise but I've come to enjoy it and the whole season. And this season has been fairly exciting to me, quite a few races with awesome scraps all through the field.
Cant wait until the 2015 starts and see how different teams and drivers get on
If he considered quitting after 1 rough year than he isnt half the champion his 4 titles show him to be.
The mark of a true champ is to push through even when times are tough, the way Micheal schumacher did when he left Bennetton to the under performing Ferrari, the way hopefully Lewis Hamilton has with jumping ship from Mclaren to a Mercedes team who were in need of some speed.
If Seb is to go down the with the likes of Senna, Prost, Shumacher, Lauda, etc he needs to show what he is really made of at Ferrari, just in the same way that Lewis needs to try and dominate F1 over the next couple of years.

Still a bit misleading with the new (smoother) tarmac.Jez

Seb versus Kimi in a Ferrari with a sharper front-end could be interesting...
Based on Vettel's penchant for blown diffusers and very light tyre use, I'd volunteer that he's a driver who likes his rear end to be pretty well stuck down. Compare and contrast, if you will, Kimi...Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
